Why choose FSU?

I was accepted to the summer term this morning and am trying to decide between FSU and USF both have many things to offer. Im not sure exactly what I want to study and am open to most things. Can someone list some pros and cons for FSU?

Ballsout

I recommend you to visit each campus if you haven't already.
My d and I have visited both and she hands down preferred FSU.

FSU
Pro Compact in area (less than 500 acres)
Beautiful traditional looking Campus
College town atmosphere and very friendly
Lots of internship opportunities (State capital)
Has better academic reputation and rankings
Has programs that she is looking for (creative writing/pre-law)
Dorms are much nicer overall than USF
A lot of activity on campus (USF was dead on the Saturday we visited
and they actually had a big football game that night - but it was a ghost
town when we were there (we left at 1pm)
Not a commuter school
Change of seasons
Has Starbucks in library
Suwanee cafeteria food was actually very good

Con FSU is a 6 1/2 hour drive from home so d will not be coming home that
often

USF Pro
Closer in proximity to home
Located close to Busch Gardens
Has Starbucks in Library

Con Campus looked a bit tired even though a younger university in age
No college town feel in Tampa
The freshman dorm we toured didn't even have closets in the rooms
Is not held in the same esteem as FSU
Not much of a change of seasons

If you haven't visited, you need to go and I think you will get a definite warm, welcoming feeling from the students, faculty and administration at FSU. The campus is beautiful and walkable and everybody looks happy there.

It is ultimately a matter of your own preference which campus has the vibe, location, programs, activities and facilities you prefer.

Some numbers:

SAT average Fall 2007 (accepted/enrolled) - FSU: 1235/1218; USF: 1148/?
Retention rate - FSU: 90%; USF: 80%
6-year graduation rate - FSU: 68%; USF: 49%

USF has a very good engineering school, which is ranked much higher than FSU.

I would not consider USF for the sole reason that it is about 30 minutes away from my house. I think that part of the college experience is becoming independent, and I would like a change of scenery (colder, hills, etc...)

FSU has Alumni Prestige, whereas USF does not. Check out this link:

I know FSU is working on that engineering issue. ;)

In order to build a truly reputable CoE, FSU will have to break the arrangement they have with FAMU.

For political reasons, it seems unlikely. This is unfortunate, because the weak CoE substantially dampens the school's overall reputation and will be a significant hindrance to their AAU membership bid.

The CoE is a creation of the Florida Legislature. FSU is working the issue.

It will probably result in FAMU and FSU receiving their own College of Engineering.
