I am trying to transfer to Clark University. I am having problems writing the 'why you want to transfer to Clark' essay as I do not know much about this university ( I am an international).
I have searched everywhere- their website, Clark page on CC, Wikipedia, Princeton review but could not find anything that makes Clark University different.

Please help me. You may share anything you know about this university.

@fendrock. What did you like about Clark? My current school is in England, I dont the atmosphere here. There is not much class discussion. Teachers are not motivating and students are not motivated! Feels like a waste of time.

fireworks, Clark puts a lot of emphasis on student research. My sense was that many students have specific interests and are very purposeful in pursuing them. The school is a university and yet small enough that students have a great deal of access to support from their professors.

One example given in the information session was of a student who studied both art and political science while at Clark. This student then became a political cartoonist.

So I think Clark is a good place for someone who is self-motivated and therefore can use the resources available to students at Clark to achieve self-defined goals.

… or at least that is the message I got from the information session…

In terms of what I liked – it did not appear to be a party-hearty school with a lot of students who were primarily interested in sports, fraternities, “the best time of your life” kind of college experience. The students seemed more mature and serious, more interested in intellectual pursuits.

My D has visited Clark twice and will be attending in the fall, and I’ve visited it once and researched it quite a bit. You can find out more if you dig… read back in the posts on the Clark forum, and look at other sites, and really explore theirs.

What set it apart for us: friendly, down-to-earth students who seem very accepting and fun, but, as someone said above, not binge-drinking maniacs; strength in subjects she’s interested in, including psychology (what it’s famous for) and political science; opportunities for undergrads to get involved in research; the free 5th-year master’s program (quite exceptional); a pretty, compact campus in an urban area with fairly easy access to Boston; a commitment to being part of Worcester and helping with its challenges; and (very important to her) a relatively diverse campus. It’s not nearly as ethnically diverse as she’s used to in LA, where we live, but by East Coast liberal arts schools, it has an economically diverse population (they give a LOT of merit and financial aid), lots of internationals, and all types of kids… including kids from a broad academic spectrum. (It’s known for helping average high school students become really engaged learners.)

Also, she’s already mapped the Trader Joe’s (4.6 miles from campus, she tells me), and hears that there are good cheap restaurants near campus, and the Clark Musical Theatre Club seems awesome.

The city of Worcester has many colleges within it–Holy Cross, WPI, Assumption, Mass College of Pharmacy, UMASS Med School, and Tufts Vet School (nearby), so there are lots of college=aged kids around. A train goes back and forth into Boston several times a day.

Clark has distinquished itself as a school where students can be very much engaged in their learning process. Research opportunities abound. Small classes are the norm. Clarkies are a diverse bunch, passionate, interesting, and intersted in a lot of different things.

Many global initiatives.
Clark has become a national model for colleges partnering with their community…

I have lived in Worcester area for 15 years and know many amazing people who are proud grads…and every one is unique.

New President seems energetic, smart, and poised to lead.

Thank you researching4emb, noimagination, and hilldweller for your posts.

@hilldweller. I think you misunderstood me. Although I know quite a bit about Clark, there is a limit to how much information I could get from their website. I, for example, was not aware of Clark’s commitment to the Worcester community (something I appreciate) and that clarkies are all proud and happy that they chose Clark.
