I am in agreement with Columbia2002. Whomever stated that the essay is not a crucial part of the application process is completely oblivious to the entire application process. It is not uncommon to hear of students with no other hook besides for a phenomenal essay be accepted due most, well to the essay and vice versa, some students essays are horrible and they are not even considered. An essay is I believe, and please do correct me if I'm wrong, the first, if not one of the first thing reviews in the application process. Considering the sheer volume of students applying these essays most likely tend to be repetitive and boring, which is why conjuring up a substantially well written essay with your goals and thoughts organized properly can be a critical deciding factor in the final decision.

NyGirl86 - I am sure Columbia2002 did not mean to offend you in anyway. It just happens to be a fact that something like that can be easily read and taken into consideration by readers, therefore such a brute insult is the best way to get the message across to someone who might think otherwise.

I believe by her original statement, she was just implying that being calm and honest and not worrying about what is written would be the best way to write an essay of such importance.
