QuixoticRick: Reguardless of the whole controversy, seeing major world leaders(reguardless of how you feel about them) is a privilge that you don't get anywhere else. I'd say that's a major plus at Columbia.

the alma mater

QuixoticRick: I wouldn't be surprised if the widely-rumoured "modest growth" (as opposed to a big growth... but then again, you can interpret it in both ways) in Columbia ED apps is partially due to Ahmadinejad :p , similar to the Taliban/Yale thing (even my Persian friend was quite angry... but then, I guess the whole matter depends on viewpoint)

It was meant to be a joke but seriously I am impressed that world leaders would come to Columbia (or any school for that matter); it's impressive. You might not like them but you have to respect them, which I do. I'm quite respectful of Bush too despite how many people dislike him.

No, it's because you can't have a 25% increase year after year. You'll start to slow down eventually. It's going to stabilize / slow down as we're already at the peak of the baby boomers' kids applying to college.

Just a tidbit, being Persian doesn't mean you should like Ahmadinejad. I watch the Persian news, and there have been a lot of anti-Ahmadinejad rallies going on, where people are chanting "Death to the dictator!".
