Heya,

Could anyone read my "most appealing about Columbia" answer?

i hope its not 'cos i love nyc and im from kansas' but ill gladly read it!!

Sure, PM it over

your pm box is full so here r my comments:

i like where u r going with it but the whole carman thing is unncessary...you are better off mentioning a prof or a field of interest that columbia is strong in or an activity you'd like to take part in or something like that rather than dropping the name of a freshman dorm.

yea well, I wanna do linguistics, but is Columbia strong in it? I don't really think so. Any other ideas? Thx for reading btw

activities? anything remotely unique

How about history? Is it strong at Columbia?

...look it up

If you cared enough about the school you'd find something out about it. Geez.

lol... I have found things about it, but the thing is that they will prob have tons of ppl write about the Core, NYC and all the obvious stuff. It's not hard to find things about Columbia that I like, it's just hard to find things about Columbia that I like and that nobody else will mention.
I like Columbia and I've prob spend days on their website and read through the prospectus 10 times now, but they really just mention the obvious stuff. They don't really give you much info about "exotic" things.

Well, whatever you write, make it sincere. For my why Columbia essay, I wrote about the Core, NYC, and the campus. Yeah, the answers that adcoms get everyday. But I also tied them to my own personality, and in my interview, I made sure to tell my interviewer the things that I wanted to put in the essay but couldn't due to lack of space.

I think it helped that my teacher and counselor recs reinforced that part of my personality.

I have the impression that if you try too hard to find something that no one else will talk about, the adcoms will be able to tell. I think they want the why Columbia essay to be personal, not a repeat of some really obscure facts.

But, you know, maybe I'm totally wrong. They might want something more compelling for the RD round.

Not you pearfire, sorry, I was talking to someone else.

What do you mean by core? Do you mean the core cirriculums?
