Why Cornell?

Im deciding b/w Cornell and Binghamton and Cornell will cost me $70,000 more over 4 years. I am in the honors program at Binghamton and the AEM at Cornell. Can anyone convince me why i should come to cornell?

I don’t know much about Binghamton but I would think Cornell would be a wise investment. Stronger academic programs, more diverse student body coming from around the world, name recognition of the school outside NY would probably open more doors to you, recognition of the AEM program, just to name a few.

$70,000 in debt is not something to be taken lightly… and you said MORE, which means the total would be above that, wouldn’t it?

Are you going to be $70,000 in DEBT after graduation if you go Cornell or is Cornell simply going to cost $70,000 more than Bing?

I am assuming that you are a NY state resident because you are considering both a state funded part of Cornell and Binghamton. Tuition is half priced for NYS residents in AEM so you should happy that you don’t have to pay full tuition. Also, there are many scholarships you can get through the state if the money is really an issue.

I think there is a real difference between the two schools if you are looking to major in business and head to Wall Street. The internship opportunities and job offers are very different between Binghamton and Cornell. I do think Binghamton is even rated in Business Weeks top Business schools. Cornell is ranked 4th. A ranking does not mean that much, but it gives a good idea of where Wall Street firms are looking to hire kids from. I am not saying if you go to Binghamton you can’t get a good job / internship, it is just much easier at Cornell.
Also, the alumni network at Cornell is much bigger and more active than Binghamton, which is very nice in terms of getting a job as well.
If money is such a big issue, Binghamton is not a bad school, however the rewards of a Cornell education should not be taken lightly.

thank you for the replies. I won’t be in $70,000 debt, rather it just costs $70000 more than Binghamton. As far as debt goes, it would probably be more in the $25000 range. And yes thank god i am in NY state, otherwise i would never be able to afford it

If we’re only talking about an extra 25k in debt, Cornell’s the choice. I-banking/Wall Street is one place where prestige matters as most big banks only recruit at a select number of target schools.
