Why couldn't Emma Watson choose ...

Berkeley instead. SAD. FACE.

I wish i could give a smart or funny answer. But Berkeley needs to improve its undergrad education and brand name to lure stars like that. Its just the sad truth.

Because she attends Hogwarts.

^^ there you go. Tastybeef came up with a smart one.

Ok, fine lol. But I should have said next next movie since 6th isn’t out yet.

Thanks for the spoilers

No lie I’m disappointed. Friend goes to Columbia.

aww… i want emma

Because New York City is the best place on the planet.

my friend is going to columbia next fall. so jealous :(

I thought she is going to Brown.

Nobody knows where she’s going yet until she announces it herself.

Maybe she did, but I don’t follow that news.

[Life after ‘Harry Potter’: Emma Watson is heading to Columbia University in the fall](http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/06/29/2009-06-29_life_after_harry_potter_emma_watson_sets_her_sights_and_.html)

sadface indeed :(

Back when the news agencies were wasting time covering whether the first daughters would go to a public or private school, they brought up the point that public schools (no matter how good or bad they are) are not a good idea for public figures as they are public and do not provide any privacy.

Similar logic might apply in this case.

BTW doesn’t she still have to do the Deathly Hollows movies (apparently they are dividing this movie into two parts)? or did they already finish all the acting?

Hmm yea…they still have to film that. Maybe she’ll come to berkeley for film studies masters

Not like it matters. They probably just take a semester off or something. I mean James Franco goes to Columbia, but he still had movies coming out.
Man if only she would come here for UG.

This makes me a saaaaaaad panda. :(

Yet superstar athletes often times attend public schools.

For example, as a high school basketball player, Greg Oden twice won the Gatorade National Player of the Year Award - a feat that had previously been accomplished only by LeBron James. Oden was clearly a prominent public figure at the time, being widely touted as a future NBA lottery pick. Yet he had no problem playing for the University of Wisconsin - a public school - for a year as per the new rules of the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement that bars NBA teams from drafting players directly out of high school. He played a single year, entered the draft, and was picked #1.

Similarly, lots of child actors such as Jaleel White and Mayim Bialik went to UCLA - Bialik even went on to earn her PhD in neuroscience from UCLA while continuing to take on roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm and 7th Heaven. Somebody mentioned James Franco; not only did he also go to UCLA for undergrad, finishing his bachelor’s in 2008 at age 30, he was even scheduled to serve as UCLA’s commencement speaker a few weeks ago before pulling out (replaced the lead singer of Linkin Park). Hence UCLA apparently offered sufficient privacy for Franco, Bialik, and other actors for their studies.

I’m pretty sure she’s going to Brown. I just read an article where Dan Radcliffe said it.

[Craig McLean meets Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe | Film | The Guardian](Dan the man | Daniel Radcliffe | The Guardian)

Anyway, someone above said public schools were not good for public figures, and it’s mostly true. I mean, the Cal campus is open to EVERYONE. Smaller private schools can close their gates. Emma and other huge stars are known to EVERYONE. There are some royals/athletes that have attended Cal, but you probably wouldn’t know it unless someone pointed it out.

But Cal is hugely popular in Asia and Europe to non-celebrity people. Most of my friends in Asia equate Cal to Harvard and MIT (which are really the only well known schools over there, rarely do people hear about Columbia/Princeton/etc.) and my German friends always talk about how everyone in their school wants to go to Cal.
