Why Dartmouth Academics

I looked on US News Rankings for Dartmouth at Dartmouth College | Overall Rankings | Best College | US News and a lot of their departments don't seem to be ranked that high, except #9 for Best Business Schools. Does anyone know what majors or departments Dartmouth is known for? I'm interested in engineering or business or anything related to Math, and I want to make sure I take the best courses Dartmouth has to offer if I go there. I applied saying I had an interest in economics, but I want to explore other interests too. Also, it says Dartmouth has #1 Best Undergraduate Teaching. What exactly does that refer to? Can anyone give me a concrete example of what that means? And if it is #1 in Best Undergraduate Teaching, how come Dartmouth's various departments aren't ranked extremely high?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Departmental rankings are really based on grad prestige, and Dartmouth does not have offer many grad programs. Econ, for example is strength, but no grad program offered. OTOH, Tuck is always a top 10 biz-school. So, Dartmouth is a 'tweener, kinda like a large LAC, or a very small Uni and thus, hard to categorize.

Oh I see. Thanks, that’s really relieving. Do you know any sites that measure only undergraduate departments? Or perhaps any books (maybe Fiske’s)? I can’t seem to find any.
