Why Dartmouth?

My school's college counselor gave me a list of schools that he wanted me to do some research on, and Dartmouth was one of them. What are the atmosphere, academic environment, and social atmosphere like? My main academic interests are math, chemistry, and economics. Some of my extracurricular interests include trumpet and boy scouts (hiking, camping, backpacking, etc.).

Lots of threads on this - here is one:

well, in your case, I’d say enjoyment of the outdoors plus econ makes Dartmouth, on paper, a great fit for you. For me, I chose Dartmouth because everyone is super talented in a really diverse range of interests, and everyone is really passionate about what they, but its a collaborative, laid back atmosphere…great minds doing great things without a hyper competitive super intense atmosphere. And because the average dartmouth student loves the school and is super happy to be there, and that is really contagious on campus…even after two years, i sometimes walk around with a goofy grin on my face because it will randomly hit me how happy I am just being on campus. Its not perfect all the time of course, but in general its a happy place.
