When i had applied in 2012 and got in as a freshman, my friends with a lower gpa and SAT score got around 13k in merit aid scholarships. I however, got none... Why was this the case?

Fast foward to my junior year, i hold a 3.3 gpa and whenever i ask to get the scholarship i get denied, saying its only eligible for pre-freshman. The gpa cut off for scholarships is 2.75. Whenever i ask why i was not considered when i applied, they say they don't know. What can i do?

The cost wasn't an issue for my family before, but now its starting to become more harder to afford even with loans...

Anything I can do to make Drexel more affordable? I'm in a situation where i may not even be able to graduate because of funds. I wanted to go to a community college or temple, then PSU, but my parents really wanted me to go to Drexel, and since they were paying for it i said okay even though i received no money. I feel terrible for the situation my parents are in and I'm just about to give up and feel horrible.

How have you been “asking” for the scholarships? Have you completed the financial aid documents which Drexel requires for financial aid? The FAFSA would typically be the starting point. See: <a href=“How to File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) | Drexel Central”>http://drexel.edu/drexelcentral/finaid/forms/FAFSA-process/

Thank you for your reply,
I have completed the FAFSA before i applied to the college in 2012. What do you mean by “asking” for the scholarships? At that time i was just a naive stupid young high school student and did not expect to go to Drexel cause of cost. I just do not understand why I was not considered for a merit-aid scholarship of 13k when all my friends with grades and SAT scores lower than mine did.

Anytime i ask the financial office for the scholarship they say i need to get scholarships outside of drexel.

I tell them i’m struggling to afford, they tell me to get more loans.

What is up with this ****

You need to apply for financial aid annually.
Most schools are including loans in their financial aid

Are there scholarships through your major? Ask the academic department and your advisor for help. What about a co-op job to help pay your expenses?

I doubt anyone is going to look back to 2012 and explain to you how they arrived at their decisions. Not that FA ever explains their decisions anyway. It’s unfortunate you didn’t make more noise at the time, but the past is past. They’re not going to give you a scholarship that is only for incoming freshmen. If you want to be considered for any aid, you need to fill out the FAFSA (and CSS if Drexel requires it). A FAFSA needs to be completed every year. Once that’s on file, you can sit down and have a conversation with FA about your difficulties and what might be done. But you’ve got to have the numbers on the table first. If your situation has changed since 2012 making it more difficult to pay, there may be resources that can help.

Some schools do not award need based financial aid (“scholarships”) if the request was not made at the time of initial time of enrollment. Note the language at <a href=“College Grants: PHEAA, SEOG and More | Drexel Central”>http://drexel.edu/drexelcentral/finaid/grants/need-based-grants/ then navigate to “DREXEL GRANTS”.

Regardless, other need based aid and loans (Stafford What is a Subsidized Student Loan? | Edvisors; ) do require the FAFSA and the CSS Profile each year. In addition the school may have merit based grants and may make an exception for you regarding the DU Endowed Grants.

The only way to pursue any of this is to start the official Drexel financial aid process as described here <a href=“Forms | Drexel Central”>http://drexel.edu/drexelcentral/finaid/forms/
