Why did everyone hate high school?

I actually enjoyed high school. I liked my classes and had no problems with any of the teachers. I was active and had many friends (or more appropriately, acquaintances). However, college is SO much better because you can plan out your schedule the way you want it and if you choose to move into an apartment or dorm, more freedom! Of course being an adult comes with major responsibilities, but that's just part of life. I also think that I'm alot closer with the friends I have in college than in high school.

I actually liked my high school and my friends there. I also kept in touch with my middle school friends too so I hung around with them too after school and stuff (and even now I see them every now and then)

like what one person said they hated about their high school don't apply to me at allll

Waking up at 6 am
-got rid of my first period, went to school @ like 8:20 ish? still ridiculously early for me now but then it was alright. I skipped 2nd hour alot with the senioritis and all so

going out in the cold to catch a smelly bus full of loud annoying kids

had a car although a crappy car. I'm sorry about the bus, I had to deal with that crap too when I moved for a lil bit.

arriving and taking classes which are usually unrelated to things you are interested in, full of repetitive busy work
-true that but at least its easy

dealing with ******bags and morons who are generally at the top of the social ladder. With afterschool sports, in particular.
-We didn't have that many cliques in my year. weird o.O

Coming home and dealing with nagging parents and bothersome siblings.
-lived away from home although i had to deal with other naggers. =_= sigh.

Doing homework for those same boring classes.
-once again.. at least its easy and yay for easier grades

Going to bed, dreading the pain of waking up in the morning.
-aw.. T_T sorry.

I didn't have problems at school, I had problems @ my friends home where I lived. I was too stressed out about that at that time to be unhappy with high school. I enjoyed alot and met alot of people I still like

High school wasn't that bad for me. My guidance counselor allowed me to choose some courses although he kept telling me to not apply to reach schools. Instead, he suggested SUNY, local and community colleges. Aside from that, I had periods off during my years. So, I would say to my counselor I want 1st and last period off so I can wake up later and end earlier...that happened senior year. I didn't get to see my friends at all really...maybe 5 classes at most? But I did try to make friends where I didn't have and it worked. Like in Spanish, I was in a class with people I've never met. I made friends with 4 of them. The principal was stupid. Idiotic rules saying how you can't wear thongs(not the undies!), jackets in the winter, etc. Cliques were everywhere....the cheerleaders with the football dudes(popular people) mostly and then the normal people like myself. The people I met seemed open to having new friends. I had 20 friends in high school overall. I got quite a couple of new friends in 10th grade and 12th grade. They didn't put a wall against you unlike other high schools except for maybe the snobby people who I kept my distance from. Teachers were nice for the most part. Work was doable. Kids on bus were annoying but three of them got to know me and talked to me. That's about it.

I didn't really hate high school, but I was more than done with it by the end of my junior year. The graduation for the year ahead of me felt like my own, as most of my friends were in it, and only towards the end did I realize I had a whole year left before it was my turn. It was a VERY long year, with few highlights. I spent a lot of senior year meeting my own class, and by prom I was having a lot of fun with them.

There were so many ups and downs though, it was ridiculous. I really loved some of the classes/EC'/friends, but others I detested. College seems to only have stuff that people like, and not the stuff that drags the whole experience down.

Highlights for me: junior year homecoming, senior prom, sophomore/junior years swimming, sophomore year youth group

I actually loved the 3 hours of soccer I had every day in high school...and I'm mostly neutral towards the overall experience. Honestly, college has been so much worse. I haven't enjoyed anything about it so far.

I loved it, actually, and I would go back in a heartbeat if they'd let me. XD As it was I ended up staying for a fifth year anyway because I didn't have the right credits to graduate on time. I didn't even mind having to be at school at 6:25 AM every day for three years (jazz band).

I did dislike the popular/snobby/jock kids, though. I don't miss that. And I don't miss having very little class choice.

To be fair I don't think I would have loved high school as much as I did if I hadn't been in band and had all my band friends and band events and band trips. My life revolved around it and all my best high school memories involved it. Without it I think I would not have enjoyed high school nearly as much.

Same here! I was pretty much in every group in band and it is the main reason why it made high school enjoyable. We had all of the performances and the great trips that made it fun.

For my last two years of high school I was in every class my BD taught except orchestra (so concert band, wind ensemble, steel drums, and jazz band), and my last semester of high school I also TAed for her. :D Band made high school a thousand times better. Glad to know someone else knows what I'm talking about!

^^i was on the colorguard & winterguard and had some of my best experiences in high school with that.

I'll sum it up:

Try being the atheist queer kid who loved math and science in a Catholic school which focused its attention on languages and home economics.

That's why I hated high school.

I don't hate it, but its definitely wearing me down a bit. I think mostly its seeing the same people all the time and being unable to avoid them although you do get to see your friends a lot. Also busy work in classes, sometimes stupid rules from the school. Sometimes stupid decisions and spending money wrongly by the school administration. Immature kids sometimes get on my nerves... oh and very much I want some freedom from my family. I love them, but at times can be annoying or whatever.

I didn't hate high school, I hated living at home.

Why in the world did you guys dislike high school?

Ya college is awesome, i guess it is so much better for kids who had controlling parents in high school, but think about this stuff:

1) In high school classes were so easy, all everyone did was take notes in class, then after school go to the beach for a couple hours, and come home to study a little before bed, and i pulled straight a's.
2) Your parents still think of you as a youngster and do your laundry, give you money to do things, and still considered paying for parties/trips/what not.
3) The hottest girls in the world had just gotten hot, and it had not gone to their heads yet.
4) All of your friends had nice new cars, and you had weekends free from major projects, and papers and could go skiing, wakeboarding, jetskiing and whatever.
5) Your house is always clean.
6) You eat well all the time.
7) Faking being sick, is complemented with your teaching giving you copuies of any info you missed.
8) Playing sports and doing extra curricular activities were pre-fit into your schedule.
9) You could have no night classes.
10) Late start days, were once a week.

I dont know about everyone, but even with taking AP classes and everything, high school was the time of my life. I honestly had to worry about such small and menial things, and even when electinos, playoffs, and whatever came around, i was never as stressed as i am now in college, when my bills, classes, commitments, Fraternity dues, and everything is hanging over my head, you know besides my hangover, hah.

Your parents still think of you as a youngster and do your laundry, give you money to do things, and still considered paying for parties/trips/what not.

My mom still does that. :D As long as I'm in school I can live at home expense-free - no rent, bills, any of that stuff. It's rather nice because it gives me a lot more time to focus on my schoolwork.

Why I hated high school:

Juvenile courses

Juvenile peers

Idiots in authority positions

Living at home when you're ready for adult responsibilities and an adult life sucks

Yeah, Apocalypte, that was basically me too. So guys, try being the lesbian atheist kid who loves math, science, classical music, and German literature in a tiny fundamentalist Christian high school which focuses on shoving its manipulated version of Jesus's love down your throat.

I thought HS was pretty fun - esp. senior year.

Granted, college was more fun due to having more "freedom" - but I wouldn't mind doing senior year again (pretty much a carefree existence and plenty of parties during the Spring and Summer).

I'm not going to say I hated high school, as I made some lifelong friends at the latter part and was involved in sports and various clubs. However, I did hate guidance counselors who discouraged me from taking AP and honors classes (seriously, 1/2 of high schoolers don't give a damn about school and you're discouraging me! ***!!), incompetent and immature teachers, 7 hour school days and getting up at 6am every day, busy work, jocks/cheerleaders, the cliques, etc.

That being said, college is 10x more fun and rewarding. Granted it means all-nighters, tougher classes and greater personal/financial responsibility but I'll take those responsibilities and freedoms over high school anyday.

Well obviously not everybody had these same advantages u did in high school (I kind did though :) and kinda still do in college). All the things you listed does not apply to everybody.

let's be honest: your physical attractiveness determines 90% of the quality of your high school experience. At an elite college, that figure drops to about 40%, or even to ~1% at a place like MIT.

A lot of people on this site are probably pretty ugly. At MIT or Cornell or Carnegie Melon, the terms are changed so they feel better about themselves, and they should. Being pretty won't find a cure for AIDS.

As I'm sure you can figure out, I was not one of the good looking jocks in high school. Thus, I hated high school. My college isn't that elite, although still way above the median school, so it's a little better, since I can socialize with lots of other geeky guys. So, I have lots of friends, male and female, but a GF is still hard to come by. Even so, I have had sexual experiences with a handful of cute girls, which never happened for me in High school. Girls are definitely less superficial, but they def. still care a lot about looks.

Also, I was high for most of high school. Smoked weed everyday, all day.
