^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

ACD = Academy. I am in the academy which changes certain courses to be acd courses. These courses are focuses on my choice of topic, for me computer repair specifically and business and IT in general. So some of my essays in English are based on computers. These classes also have many guest speakers and information on colleges.

ECs :

Plan on over 200 hours of community service (20 already lol)

Became compTIA A+ certified (certified pc technician) at 15

Created my own company at 15. It is a computer repair company. I estimate at least tens of thousands a year. Currently working on a commercial for local cable broadcast, flyers, want ads, yellow book ads, and the website. I have many “contractor” employees that I have jobs for every now and than. Currently im the only technician (have yet to look for anyone yet anyway) and the company hasn’t started. I plan on keeping the company ASC and will hopefully get it ASC gold eventually. Have several employees. HOOK ???

*Business and IT (Computer technician emphasis) Academy student 10-12
---Academy program includes job shadowing, internships, grade level projects based on academy emphasis, portfolio, resume, and interviews of professionals. Also includes field trips to businesses, museums, libraries etc focused on my topic. My focus is on computers and business (however at any time if i choose I may go into the engineering academy)

*Creator and President of FCEF (future computer engineer forum) This is a club i am making this year (10th grade) where we discuss new and upcoming technologies and design (realistic) products ourselves. We even try and sell one product to a company (like Toshiba, Samsung, lg, etc. every semester!)
http://fcef.net

*Creator and President of TOHS donation club. I am also creating this club (this year) where every 4 weeks we will run a donation drive to help those in need. At the same time we collect boxes from every class room for donations every week. Proceeds go to food share, make a wish, mana, etc.

Member of CSF (requires 3.5gpa and 10 hours of com. service a semester)

I do reports on colleges that I want to go to and visit them, so I can send them in these papers (such as a rsvp for undergraduate admission info for mit in October) to show I have had interest in the colleges for years. Later this year I have to do a report for my academy, on 5 colleges i wish to attend. Ill send these in.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
SATs: I plan on taking the SAT and the SATII at the end of 11th grade Taking PSAT on the 21st; ill update after i take it . Yes, I am already studying for the regular SAT.

Subject SAT tests :
Math II , English , Spanish with listening, and chemistry (maybe earth science)

Application : obviously haven’t written an essay. Ill have good recommendations . Im also good with interveiws.

Me: Live in southern California and I am male of Italian ancestry (born in new York) .

PS. When you chance me just "pretend" i got a very high SAT score and I got everything else on this list.

PSS. I am a soph. LOL yes im worrying early on. lol.

PSSS. My club websites have so many errors right now and ill be updating them this week.

gangs of new york???????????

ok dude you are a freakin soph. don't even start to worry about college yet. do whatever you like that you enjoy the most. go get a life. and when you are a junior and senior you can start worrying about college admissions. jeez.

1) Gangs of ny ? What the heck ?

2) No i always have an obsession with something until it is done unfortunately. It is usally something like remodling my room, getting a new game, etc but now its getting into these schools. I literally HAVE to be obsessed with getting in them.

3) NO FLAMING ! Just post my chances in your opinon.

I think you're worrying too much as a sophomore.

Spend your energy developing your interests...not trying to get into the best college.

No im fine about the worrying. it helps me keep focused. If you notice all of my ECs and my electives pretain to what I enjoy NOT what im doing as padding. Everything on that list I enjoy. Just want some chances.

Ok, if you like to worry, here's what schools like Caltech and MIT are looking for:

High GPA - >3.8 uw
High Class rank - top 5% at least.
High SATs/SAT2s/ACTs - 2250+ on SATs. 750+ on all SAT2s. 34+ composite on ACTs.
ECs - Activities you want to do that show passion, committment, and ability.

As far as estimating your chances, sorry, no can do. Without actual SAT/SAT2/ACT scores and your GPA through the end of your junior year, there's nothing to go on. All I can say is that you seem to be on the right track.

Bad plan to take only four courses senior year. You'll look like a slacker, or a grade-grubber, or both.

i don't think sat scores are the main factors for admissions consideration for mit and caltech, i think research potential and interests in the sciences/ math are more important. Granted intangiable factors like determination and creative thinking are hard to put on a resume, but i would say that these points have more weight than a 2250. If you look at Mit's website that lists the stats of admitted students, average math scores are much higher than average reading/writing scores.
While you are showing inituitive by being the creator and president of those clubs, doing research would really help your chances. You seem to be interested in compsci, why not do a compsci project and present it at your science fair and see how that goes. You're on the right track!!

I beg to differ. The median SAT M+CR last year for MIT was 1500. The median SAT M+Cr at CalTech was 1525. At MIT, 50% of the Freshman scored 1500 or above. At CalTech, 50% of the Freshman scored 1525 or above. Clearly, SAT scores are not trivial at these schools.

1) Im also planning on taking a nussiness course at my community college this summer
2) Again estimate my chances if i got say a 2200 on sat and 725 on all SAT IIs
3) Would love to do research but i got to find a professor first.

amptron2x, i completely agree with you that sat's aren't trivial, but i wouldn't say that they are the determining factor. i may be interpreting scores wrong, but i believe median scores means that 50% of the students score below this range, so for half of the studen body, something else other than test scores gained them acceptance. I think that mit would be more inclined to admit an student who may have published work in a journal or done well at contests like sts or seimens, who has a 1450, than one with 1600, and much weaker ec's.

you can do research on your own. i did it freshmen year and placed 1st at the state science fair- granted i come from kentucky...so that's not saying much, but i bet out a kid with a project on stem cell research because i knew everything about my dinky homemade project. email professors. seriously , take a leap of chance, you never know who will be willing to work with you. best of luck :D

Cool i guess ill do research on my own. Im thinking of studying either computational nuerology or possible system bus configurations to speed up supercomputers and home computers.

PS. If i take a AP test but not the course, if i pass, will i get college credit?

PSS. Im also thinking of taking electrical engineering this summer at my community college. How hard do you think this would be ?

mtf612:

UCB: Match (Engineering)

thanks flopsy !

Okay now i just got to make sure all these peices fall into the right places.
