I just got an email from berkeley saying they want more information about me.

after reading some of the threads here, i see that i got the borderline one and im not sure why.

SAT: CR 560 M790 W660 (2010)
Subject: M2 800 Chem 760 Molecular Bio 750
decent extracurriculars

Class rank 1/650 (each year 15-20 people from our school get into berkeley)
took college courses at local community college every summer

Well, your CR is relatively low.

And it could be about your essays, letters of rec, ECs…

Why are you surprised that you’re borderline? You might look just like another good at math but not well-rounded student. Also, I believe that your class rank isn’t taken into account in UC apps.

The people who got into berkeley from the past years have much lower stats than me. Also i have taken 10 aps (3 this year) with six 5s

If I had to guess, based on your low CR score, maybe your essays weren’t that good. While the UC app does take into account the number of AP classes taken, the actual score you get doesn’t help your chances for admission.

I think my essays were pretty strong. I have low CR and W scores because i wasnt born here.

Take it very seriously. I got a supplement too and I saved my answers and read them after I got in and now I can see why I got in. I don’t remember putting so much time and effort into it but I suppose I did at the time.

It really doesn’t matter why you got it. You will never know the answer to that question. What’s important is that you did get it and you have a second chance to sell yourself. Do just that and stop worrying about the why. Good luck.
