Why did I get an engineering letter

I’m below the 25th percentile in gpa 3.66uw/4.12w, no varsity sports, no engineering extracurriculars, no math or science competitions. Essays I just talked about running my schools gamers club, baking, volunteering at a dog shelter program, and overcoming social struggles through theatre.

Now I’m NOT complaining or anything, I’m just surprised that I got one.

I just want to know why they gave me one

I’m in state btw

You have something they liked. It’s not all gpa.

It’s top applicants they want. Not necessarily by stats. Being a girl or urm is a possible trigger for the letter.

@10s4life What does urm mean?

@InfiniteLibrary it means “underrepresented minority”, aka anyone who isn’t asian or white.

@Avancer Thank you!

what is the letter that people are talking about? Is it just for engineering students or all majors?

@waitin4ever It is an email that was sent to applicants to the engineering school asking them to “save the date” for the UCLA Engineering Open House. It is just for engineering students. It was sent the same day that UCSD and UCD decisions came out. Posters in previous years said that this is the equivalent of a likely letter. They also said that after the regular decision day more invitations will be sent out to those who have been accepted to engineering.
