Does anyone know if you can call and find out your position on the waitlist? Because it seems like the majority of people I know and many on the forums got into UCI but don’t plan on going. So I’m praying my waitlist thing goes through and I get admitted :/

@ryukapple
Honestly im feeling a bit insulted that i didnt get in. lol. I’ve just been feeling like im not even good enough for UC’s, and that I’m just not good enough for anything period.

Not good enough for UC’s? Did you apply to SB? D? SC? R? M?

What was your #1 school?

well honors classes aren’t considered hard in comparison to ap (although i don’t necessarily agree on this), which is why some honors classes aren’t weighted in the uc system. i didn’t mean to sound as if i was saying your course load was easy, i just meant it wasn’t as tough as other people who take 2-4 aps a year

@junshik.
if you want to know you can pm me, im not posting it for privacy reasons LOL. If i say it itll be really revealing because their acceptance rate is ~7%, and its pretty hard to get into, so you could just look on that board and find out lol.

@popped
thats true. I completely disagree with that (honors classes are hella hard in my school), but the honors that i did take junior year WERE weighted (we cant take AP’s before junior year). And i took 3 AP’s, 2 weighted honors junior year so i dont think course difficulty was the problem.

LOL for irvine im pretty sure i got tufted, so im not really down about it anymore.

do you know if you can ask the admissions office why you are waitlisted? in general any college? including privates? wil they tell you? say if they say your SAT is too low and u retake it?

^I called sd and they said that they cant tell you anything. Generally UC’s on the holistic system (HAH the irony) dont have the information, but idk if that includes irvine.

Privates might though! Worth a shot? But idk if i would recommend it, a bit unhealthy to obsess? (this is me being extremely hypocritical, excuse me). But for me calling gave me a bit of closure, even if they didnt give me a reason, so im happy i did it.

Admission is not based to gpa, and sat alone. A great college needs to maintain some diversity that mirrors the community in general. So there will be a bit of white, hispanic, black, asian, straight, gay, rich and poor people to provide a good education environment for the enrolled students.
If admission were based on gpa and sat alone, the whole campus will be full of nerdy people. It is not a quota system, but it is unrealistic for UCSD to enrol 70% asians, 20% white, 8% hispanic, and 2% black etc. Look at UCI, there are just too many asians. It will never be a better university than UCSD, UCLA, or UCB because of that. The most optimal break is 10-20% asian, 30-40% white, and 20-30 hispanic, 10-20% black. These percentages are more reflective of the propulation in the community.
It order to maintain our lead as the greatest nation on earth, we need to treat all our citizens fairly and equally. Education equality is the most important first step.
