I thought I was for sure in. 4.0 uc gpa 2030 SAT *** ??? That's all I can say I already got into some top schools and I wasn't even considering ucsc and I just dot understand ??

You’re too overqualified, I believe they need to spare space for people that actually have a good possibility to go there.

That’s completely not true.

I really think so because my friend got in with a 3.2 so w t f

Get your grade conseuler to call the admissions office to ask them why you didn’t get in, assuming this is a big deal for you.

I would be upset too, but imho, this is not about you but about the situation in California.

First, realize that THE UC SYSTEM IS SCREWED UP! All of the UCs are dealing with massive cutbacks in state funding. They can’t increase tuition as fast as the state is cutting back. They are making up some of the shortfall by accepting more out-of-state and international students.

Second, UCSC had the highest % increase in applications of any UC campus. They can’t accept as high a percent of applicants as in past years, or they’ll get too many freshmen.

Third, UCSC changed from a purely numerical cutoff to a “holistic” application review process this year. I can’t speak to their motivation, but it will probably mean a bigger spread of both accepted and rejected applicants.

If you are truly ticked off about this, vote for the ballot initiative this fall that will restore some of the lost funding to the UC system.

I don’t mind that much I never wanted to go to ucsc but it is discouraging for me considering some ucs I actually want to get into haven’t gotten out yet. And ucsc is supposed to be easier

Any other input?

They all seem like valuable reasons. Just don’t loose hope buddy. You have a great gpa and sat score. You have a good chance at UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB. So don’t loose hope!

It was probably your personal statement… if you gave the wrong vibe to the readers then they would of decided that you were probably not a right fit for the school. The wrong mindset can really screw you over with the essay .

No my essay was really good according to all my teachers and peers trust me

if you had “never wanted to go to ucsc” anyway, the adcom probably felt it from your essay.

@bigsurf

You realize all the UC’s read the exact same essays right? The essay he sent to UCSC will also be read by SB, Irvine, Davis, and every other UC. So if his essay was poorly written it would affect his chances at every UC, not just UCSC.

Maybe you got into another UC…maybe they do cross-checks and will let some go…?

im a female by the way. And ya, I just want to fall to my knees right now. I am so disheartened.

It would be fascinating to see what % out of state got in verses earlier years. Clearly that has an impact.

all I meant was, perhaps the essay leaned more toward another UC, and that’s the UC you’ll get in.

Not really. I dont think I was that over qualified either. I am just hating my life right now. People in with. 3.2 and I’m not??

LOL me neither.

UC GPA is 3.86 and SAT is 2240.

Eh, I didn’ think overqualification, I was more referring to the tone of the essay perhaps was less suitable for UCSC while another UC might find it spot on, who knows
