Just wondering what made you choose Auburn over other southern schools…I’m considering UGA, Auburn, UA, Clemson, and FSU. I have visited them all and Auburn has moved from last place to first in my rankings. I really liked the town and the campus atmosphere, very friendly like a big family.

Auburn's atmosphere is a big reason people love it so much here. At other schools, it's about being a "nation" of fans, but at Auburn, it's about us all being part of the Auburn Family. It's wonderful, because you can go anywhere in the world and when you see someone wearing Auburn gear, you know that you can give them a "War Eagle!" and feel like you belong. I've had it happen to me in St Louis at the Arch, New York City, and even in Paris, France.

I grew up an Auburn fan, so I always wanted to go here from the time I was a little kid, but Auburn is actually a good school for many subjects. I don't know much about Clemson or FSU (I've never been to either, although I did recently meet some very nice people from FSU at my study abroad program this summer in Paris), but I hated Tuscaloosa and the vibe at UA. Of course, I may be biased, but the city itself seemed pretty ghetto and the school was very "you must be Greek or your social life will be nonexistant" (from the experience of people I know who go there, very few who aren't Greek actually have much of a life outside school, this includes my half-brother and a girl from my HS). Plus everyone I've ever met who is a Bama football fan is incredibly obnoxious about it and still rave on and on about how great their team was 30 years ago. (Auburn's a better school academically, anyway.)

UGA is a good school academically (higher ranked than Auburn overall, I believe, although we have some programs that are better than theirs) and the campus/town is cool so this is a good choice for school too. Of course, I think our football team is better than theirs, but that doesn't REALLY have anything to do with picking a school. (their fans seemed to be mixed- some are total jerks while others are perfectly nice, so I imagine the student body overall is similar).

I realize this is an aged post, but I still feel it may be worthy to future students to read about my decision to choose AU. First, I should say I’m from the Chicagoland Area and I went to AU for graduate school (MBA). I wanted something “different”. I did my undergrad work in Chicago and I sought a new experience. Bo Jackson believe it or not was probably the clincher for me. I grew up in the Bo Jackson Era and he was a huge idol of mine. I never even visited the campus prior to Day 1 of class. When I arrived, I immediately knew I made the right choice. It’s a great, great school! The family concept is so true. I felt the academics were good, Professors were down to earth, and people just awesome! So, so friendly. I was on campus the night AU won the BCS National Championship! It was an experience of a lifetime! auburn-Opelika are very quaint southern towns. Old and with not a ton going on, but relaxing. Summers are awfully hot - almost unbearable. But, it can get cold too in the winter. Close Atlanta, Birmingham. the Inn @ Auburn University is excellent as well. Game Day is amazing! when you graduate from AU you know you are forever part of something special. I like Ole Miss too. I’ve never been to Bama and I didn’t love Florida state in my one visit there. It was just okay. UGA looks like a nice school too, but I’ve been. I would highly, highly recommend Auburn - 2 of the best years of my life!
