So, I decided to start a thread where everyone can share why they decided to go to boarding school. I've heard people say that there parents forced them, or that there current school just sucks, or even because the private school they currently go to stresses that one should go on to boarding school.

Anyways, post why YOU decided to go to boarding school :)

I’ll initiate the responses, shall I?
I decided after noting how much more academically rigorous boarding schools were, and how much better off their graduates were in the college and career stages.
I have also had a sister who went to Lawrenceville about 10 years before me (I didn’t apply, though), and I really noticed a growth in her maturity, and wanted to experience the same.

I just fell in love with the idea of being independent earlier than college, along with the academics, the whole experience drew me towards it.
Also, I have had it with my current school, I just cant stand the people there anymore XD

Boarding school just better prepares you for life. I currently go to Exeter, and it has really opened up my mind to a lot of new things. Its not about college here, it’s all of the different opportunities that you get to have here, and the friends and connections that you make.

Number one reason, honestly? I hate Alabama. With a passion. But its really the only way I define myself (as you can see from my username), and I want to depart from that. I want to recieve a great education and gain more independence. I want the great facilities and excellent teachers. But above all- I want a supportive environment where I can truly thrive. And I feel that boarding school will give me all of that and more.

I can’t stand the immature people in my grade and my school is so easy it is painful. I also love the freedom of boarding school, and want to be away from my family for a bit. Also, I want to have the best chance possible to whatever college I want.

How about we try to find some unique reasons lol? Someone said “to meet husband, get married” haha

In my case, I’m intl but I lived in US before. Most of my friends are going to boarding schools. I miss them a lot and want to see them again Also, I lived in several countries, but not alone, so now it’s fascinating to be on my own. Those are some of my reasons.

i choose boarding school because of the fantastic academic opportunities, great athletics, coach’s college connections, prestige (yes i know shallow) and seeing how happy my friend is at boarding school, the life-long friendships and the old boys network

i chose to go to boarding school because i feel way more mature than the rest of my grade, and most of the kids in my school dont give a crap about education. ( i live in a small town). my reasons are very similar to everyone else who posted here!

Right, I completely forgot about the immature and annoying antics of public school kids. Totally uneducated, and OF COURSE it would be those kids who mock the intellectually gifted.
