Why did you choose pre-med?

So currently a pharmacy major. I'm planning on applying to Med Schools as this kind of major; however, lately I've been considering transferring and going for a pre-med route. I was wondering why some of you chose the pre-med track over choosing a different major and applying to med school that way? I keep hearing about how not too many kids get into med school (kind of want to transfer to UMASS amherst...and dream med school is UMASS Med), think this is a good idea?

Your post is confusing.

Probably no one here chose premed as a major. Most schools don’t have a premed major. Most here majored in an academic subject such as Bio, Chem, English, French, History, etc.

And, if you’re prepharm, then would be applying to pharm schools, not med schools.

If you want to be premed, then you probably don’t have to change much, just make sure that you have all the prereqs…since prepharm and premed tracks are similar.

What school has a pharmacy major? That seems very strange to me - do you go to a vocational school? Either way, I would advice you not to take a pre-med “major” if your school even offers it. That’s because it essentially grounds your future hopes in med school. If you don’t get it, there’s not much you can do with a “pre-med” degree. For instance, I am a social sciences major on a pre-med track. That simply means I take all the required pre-med classes. Even if you’re pre-pharm, in order to apply to med school, you’re going to have to take all the pre-med requirement classes. Major does not matter when applying to med school.
