Writing as the parent of a rising Junior Chem E major.
Her major should be pretty much all you need to know. UD’s Chem E program is a USNWR Top 10 undergrad program (and #6 graduate program…in multi-way tie with a few schools, including Princeton). So it’s strong in her major…Chem E is one of a few programs where UD is a national-level player.
Proximity to home (we live in NJ) was also a factor. While my daughter does not come home that often, for my wife and I, it’s nice to know we could visit her in a day trip. And of course, it makes move-in/move-out a little easier than if she had to fly to get to her college.
Socially, I heard that UD was a bit of a party school…and I think it warrants that reputation. Daughter is not much of a a partier, but seems to find enough things to do in Newark to keep her occupied/entertained.
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the extremely generous scholarship UD granted her as Distinguished Scholar. While we told her not to make her final choice based on $, it is nice to have very few out of pocket costs for her undergrad education.
FWIW, she chose UD over Carnegie Mellon’s engineering school. And we’ve all been pretty happy with the decision. If UD is strong in your major, definitely add it to your apply-to list.
