I found college confidential about 3 years ago. I was searching for merit aid for my D as she was an excellent student with excellent scores.

Mom to College Kids wrote a great deal about her sons’ experiences at Bama so we decided to check it out. We visited 4 times in total. I recount our visits in more detail in the threads above. Needless to say, we loved the visits, the students, the administrators and the staff. From the workers at the Bryant food hall that say, “Welcome to Alabama” to the sticky bun guy at Lakeside that spoke to my husband about how he likes to take care of the students in the lunch room to meeting one-on-one with various honors college professors; we felt our daughter would be well taken care of and treated as a person and not a number.

My D had many great merit offers from the six schools she applied to; $500,000 worth in total. She had her choice of several great schools and she chose Bama. My D absolutely loves it there. She has met so many wonderful people. Her classes are rigorous (she’s an EE major) and she still has time for a social life. To me, it’s the best of both worlds.

I hope you will read what others have written in the threads I highlighted in the previous post. The posts are very heartfelt and well-written.

Hope that helps and Roll Tide!!

Thank you! Most threads don’t show up on my searches on my app, unfortunately.

A lot of factors played in to why my daughter chose Bama over Georgia Tech and UNC-Chapel Hill (scholarship opportunities being probably the biggest) but I’d rather say why we still believe it was the best choice a year later. She has thrived in ways I never expected, gaining confidence and finding her voice. She has made amazing friendships, excelled academically and loved her coursework, and found many ways to be involved on campus. Her face lights up when she talks about her experiences, and people who have known her since childhood all notice it. I am extremely hopeful that her younger brother will follow in a few years.
