I'm really interested in why you guys picked penn state over other schools?
It was a topic that my friendst talked about during the year.

I picked Penn State because when i looked at brochures for other schools and looked on the websites, they seemed to match up, but when i visited Penn state, compared to other places, I could really picture myself there for the next 4 years.

I chose PSU over the others because I could none of the other campuses felt as comfortable and fun at the same time.

Even though my parents did not go to Penn State (Gettysburg grads), they were big Penn State football fans. For the past 7 or so years, weve been to atleast 2 football games and 1-2 basketball games a year. During this time, I just fell in love with the campus. I decided my sophomore year that I wanted to go to Penn State, and applied this past August. Penn State has always been my dream school, and even if I didn't get into UP, I wouldve went to Altoona for a year most likely. I applied to Lehigh as a safety school, but knew there was less than a 5% chance of me going there.

Good value, decent business program, large alumni network.

One of the best meteorology programs in the nation, if not THE best; Schreyer; large school to me = enough people to find the right group...so far it's proven to be a great choice.

Like most of the others, my D chose PSU because of her gut feeling it was the right place for her. PSU was the last college she visited. Although she originally saw herself at a large city school, PSU's excellent Comm. school, beautiful campus, great school spirit and terrific alumni network won her over. She chose PSU over Syracuse and Gettysburg and six others (some of which gave her scholarships); like OriolesManiac's parents, I am also a Gettysburg Grad.

When she was making her final decision, I told her to go with her gut. At FTCAP last week, she was convinced she had made the right choice.

a. A sizable part of the decision process in our house was related to the very strong ROTC program.
b. The execution of the process by the admin people at PSU - admission right through FTCAP - has been near flawless, giving us confidence that such a large university does not need to be overly bureaucratic or cumbersome to deal with.
c. It's a great value for in-state students.
d. I probably know 100 people who went to PSU - they all enjoyed it - a pretty good "road test" for prospective students.
e. When we visited we had a very warm gut feel about the place. That's why I encourage doubters of PSU (or any other school for that matter) to go out of their way to visit the school.

BECAUSE OF THE HOTT GUYS!!

Hahahaha just kidding!!

It just felt right.

Because of the wild parties with hot blonde chicks. :)

got waitlisted then rejected by UT; was deciding between OSU and PSU, went with psu because of better campus, college feel, proximity, and higher ranking.

Turns out it wasn't a fit for me.

Was that UT-Austin? It's a great school but oddly enough its the only school ranked higher than PSU for partying! I think Princeton Review ranked it the #1 party school lol.

Yeah I know, at least i have that to console myself: if I had gotten into austin, it would have been an even bigger party scene!! The engineering department there and the city are more appealing to me, though. Almost all their programs are ranked high, too bad it is flooded with instaters who take acceptance for granted.

so are u coming back to UP in the fall or are u transferring to another school. maybe you met the wrong people at school or maybe there were situations that happen in the dorms that were out of your control. i hope that next year you will like it.

I think with you situation Fras you definately could make it better with some work. One thing Ive found is it seems everyone can fit in if they just try and let there guard down a little ;).

I get asked all the time, why PSU? (as I'm transferring from a smaller school in southern CA). The answer is easy...Strong academics, competitive rotc program, nice looking campus, and of course, PSU football.
