Why did you pick Stanford?

Hello all,

I am an international from the UK seeking more information about certain US unis. I may get a chance to visit next summer but I might not and the website can only tell you so much but everytime I look at it, I get this longing feeling that makes me want to be there... it makes me smile.
In your opinion, what is it about Stanford that is so amazing? Why did you pick Stanford above every other school in the country?
Also, I would love to major in History, so any opinions/ information on what Stanford's history department would be great...

Thank you :)

Okay, I am applying to Stanford this year, so I did not necessarily “pick” it. But I guess applying there is picking.

Stanford is my second choice, only below Brown.

I settled on Stanford because of the unique vibe of the school. At Stanford, the liberal arts and technical degrees are all excellent, but the atmosphere is not oppressive at MIT (or so I hope). I love the campus, and that the school excels at sports.

I also adore the weather in California.

And of course the prestige. Stanford is “too good” to be an Ivy.

Stanford just gives an impression of free spirit and entrepreneurship. Which I guess is what the school is going for, but it sure pulls me in.

^I agree, and i’m in the same boat. I’m applying to Stanford, but I like it because of the reasons you listed. Also, I like it because it’s the only elite school with really good athletics across the board.
