Why DIDN'T I get GSPed?

Hello everyone!

I recently got into NYU Steinhardt for communication! I was very, very surprised because my stats were even lower than the stats of those who were GSPed. I sincerely hope someone can provide me with some insight as to what strengths I possess that HELPED to balance out my crappy SAT's and mediocre GPA. Is NYU's admissions decision more holistic than I imagined?

I am very curious to know because I'm still waiting on USC, my 1st choice school. Any insight would be great! I appreciate your time!

Decent recommendation letters.

Essay topic: I have turned my disadvantages into advantages and created opportunities for my self. Focused on my one personal family struggle in my 10th grade year and how I have evolved from that hardship and contributed to the community.

bc steinhardt doesn't gsp? or maybe I'm just making that up

It doesn't? That's what I want to know..

Steinhardt does GSP and dont take this the wrong way (I recently got into Steinhardt too) but it is generally easier than CAS and Stern. Also, An admissions rep. told me they consider ec's relating to your major to be very important. It's not easy to get into, the admissions review is just a little different.

are you sure steinhardt gsp's? i thought it was only cas and gallatin, and stern for sports people. and tisch has a weird one year program for film students maybe?

Is it possibly to transfer from Steinhardt to CAS?

y would u have possibly been GSPed... your stats and app look really good from what you posted.

My SAT cr + math is 1230.. unweighted GPA 3.65.. that's below average even for GSPers.

I believe 1330 is the cutoff for CAS..

oh wow i ddin't realize your sat was a 1230. Don't question it - just be happy

sh is easier than cas/stern/gallatin. congrats though

oh, also....

GSP is also somewhat related to geographic diversity. are you from ct/nj/ny?

i don't think steinhardt is easier than gallatin

i dunno, you may be right, but i haven't seen anyone with a 1230 getting into gallatin. getting put into gsp --->gallatin probably would have been more likely.

ya but before this I haven't heard of anyone getting into nyu with a 1230 (steinhardt or even gsp)

what's gallatin?

Yeah that's why I was puzzled.. wondering if they made a mistake or something.. it's probably my extra curricular activities and awards I've won.

I also mailed NYU an article I published in Chinese Yangtze Newspaper (nationally recognized). Steinhardt communication is probably looking for more trilingual kids.

Hopefully my story will give hope to some of the kids who are on the borderline academically.

Hi stressed0ut, been tracking your anxiety along with mine over on the USC page for my D. BTW, she got into Steinhardt with a SAT I of 670/520/660, but she's Music and Performing Arts Professions for Violin Performance.

Maybe they just like violinists.

SAT II: math 720, chinese 770

Volunteer:
1) UPMC Passavant Hospital 500 hrs + (4 years)
2) Carnegie Science Center 150+ (1 year)
3) Northland Public Library 100+ (2 years)

I work 4 jobs simultaneously:
1) trilingual interpreter for an electronic company in China
2) Chinese cultural dance instructor
3) YMCA childcare staff
4) Office assistant for a management company in America to develope conceptual skills

That's why.

Nice way to show off, LOSER...some people here have NO LIFE

not true about the 1330...

i know 1350+'ers that were GSP'ed from CAS

What it boils down to is that NYU looks at more than numbers.

(Who knows? Maybe the admissions committee had a fabulous lunch that day, and when they got back to work, they were like, "Heck, let's admit everyone today!") :P
