I’ve been doing some research with Tech. Here are the percentages from common data that were accepted from the bottom half and quarter of the classes. I’m trying to figure out why there is so much fluctuation in individuals from the bottom half and quarter accepted. Does anyone know how it goes from zero for two years to 1.46 percent?
Bottom Half Bottom Quarter
2007 1 0
2008 2 1
2009 0.35 0.21
2010 0 0
2011 0 0
2012 1.1 0.1
2013 0.8 0
2014 0.56 0.07
2015 1.23 0.23
For Comparison, here are the top half, quarter and ten:
Top half top tenth top quarter
2015 98.53 81.17 95.98
2014 99.37 79.21 96.75
2013 99.2 80.8 95.1
2012 98.9 74.2 93.9
2011 99 60 87
2010 98 58 87
2009 95.18 80.55 95.65
I’m sure the students in the bottom half / bottom quarter of their HS classes are recruited athletes, friends and relatives of admissions officers, etc., and others who are receiving special treatment.
I agree with @p23brian
