Okay so I've been doing a lot of research on this topic myself, but I've only been able to find so much. What I want to know is why study biology at Cornell? Are there any specific faculty members who really make it worth while and if so then who? Does the program help you learn a variety of biology topics or are you expected to know exactly which topics you want to specialize in from the start? If anyone has any interesting bio/Cornell things to add- I'm VERY interested! :)

Thanks,
E

(Don't know if this will help, but for now I really love genetics/neuroscience)

There is a certain subset of classes that all bio majors have to take and you are allowed one area of concentration so you get the best of both worlds.

OP, I am in the EXACT same situation!
I don't even know why/how cornell popped up on my list...but it is supposed to be my dream school and I don't even know why!

darling, let's talk.

PS: oh, and i also LOVE genetics/neuroscience! i was at one point thinking of majoring in psychology/cognitive science. may be you are my long lost twin.

I wasn't sure about biology when I was originally looking at schools. I was just looking at schools that had strong academics. I had looked at BU, Tufts, Brandeis, CMU, JHU, MIT, Rutgers, TCNJ, Delaware, NYU, Upenn, columbia and maybe a few others. My parents wanted to see Ithaca so they were like we should check out Cornell. I was so against it, but when we went on the tours and walked around I loved the campus, the students we talked to, and the whole atmosphere there(both academic and social). It wasn't until a few months later that I became positive about the biology so I went online and looked at their biology and neuroscience site and I really liked how they did things. I guess it was just luck (although Cornell prob has great programs in almost everything).

..it IS farmland. actually, its really quite "gorges" laughs at the lame joke
it really is far away from the hustle and bustle of NYC and stuff. :-/ i wouldn't mind, though...if only i could get in!

Picking cornell for Biology is like picking Berklee College for music or Harvard for an MBA...it's one of the top schools in field, to put it simply.

Strong bio-chem program is the only reason why I am looking at Cornell. As far as I understand it, Cornell takes 3rd spot for Biology, just a little behind calTech and MIT.

Cornell has the best biology dept in the Ivy League. Even Harvard yields to this truth, and Harvard is not an institution renowned for its humility.

Definately, and med schools are well aware of the rigour of cornell bio courses(for those of you who are afraid of not get straight A's in bio. Chill out)

eeemillee, same thing with me, actually. I was convinced that I only wanted an urban school and my top choice was Columbia for the longest time. Then, my parents finally convinced me to check out Cornell, and BAM, that was it. I knew that's where I wanted to go. And now that's where I'm going.
