<p>The MIT application does not ask that.</p>
<p>I wasn’t asked that by my interviewer, but perhaps to see your general interests? It’s not a question I’d ask if I were an interviewer (god forbid), but if that were to be asked maybe they want to see where your interests lie. (Maybe you’re applying to top engineering schools, maybe MIT is a reach school, maybe you’re really a liberal arts kind of person but MIT is just for kicks.)</p>
<p>In the end, though, I think that’s a useless question (not that that helps).</p>
