Why do colleges require SAT Subject tests if you pass an AP test?

Does anyone know? If you take the AP Calc AB & BC and AP Stats tests and pass them and shouldn't that be enough to tell colleges you can handle the curriculum? So why do they require Sat Subject tests?

Same goes with any AP test that also has an SAT subject tests (ie US History, Chem, Physics etc).

The SAT is the great equalizer. It’s an easier way to truly gauge an applicants ability with another applicant. And also, some AP test have as much as 20 percent of people who get 5s and like 70 percent who pass. It’s much harder to score very high on a subject test.
