"People are too crazy about this whole "must go to college" thing."

Well the truth is, most people's goal in high school is to get good grades and do ECs to get into a good college. In HS, a majority of the student clubs had members who only wanted to pad up their application, but in college that may be true, but at least it's one good way to make friends when one is attending a huge university at the same time.

"Well the truth is, most people's goal in high school is to get good grades and do ECs to get into a good college."

Then it brings up two questions (in my mind, at least):

Have we, as society, placed too much emphasis on a degree (and not the learning), or is it just the facts of life - you aren't going to survive in the job market if you don't have one.

What about those not planning on going, or not able to get in, to college then? I remember reading in that TIME article that a vast majority of Americans believe we should have an option for vocational training at the high school level, since many students aren't going to make it to college.

I dunno, seems kinda off-topic now that I read this. Perhaps a mod can split this if dicussion picks up.

I agree that in today's society, there is great emphasis on a need to earn a degree.
