Why do I get PRIORITY emails from random colleges?

It's about at least 6 colleges that offered me an invitation to apply: including no essay, fee waived and automatic consideration for scholarships.
Out of all the schools, I accept the Fordham U's invitation to apply.
By the way, most of theses schools accept students with low SAT scores, and have graduation rates of 50%. They don't have my major- Interior Design. Why isn't the schools that I'm applying to rather inviting me these things, such as Syracuse or George Washington.

GWU and Syracuse tend to have a lot of good applicants, but a lot of schools send mass emails to students with high test scores to try to raise their averages

Are you URM? That can be attractive to colleges too.

@dyiu13‌ I guess so. I’m chicano.

By the way my SAT aren’t that good. M (560), W (550), R (400). The reading negatively skewed by overall all score. But dramatically my GPA went from 2.8 to a 4.0, after never having earned honor roll. Since then, I have maintain that. What things may colleges have access to?

You probably checked the box when you took the PSAT saying you wanted to hear from colleges who are interested in you.

Colleges base their emails off of the information you put on your standardized testing booklets. If you indicated that you wanted to hear from colleges that are interested in you, then you’ll receive emails from lots of them. They base this off of the test score you received, your race, gender, etc.

It’s not an indication of what schools you can get into, though. I receive emails from very low ranked schools (Wittenberg for example), but also from very highly ranked schools (UCLA, UChicago, Brandeis). They don’t see that I have a 3.4 GPA, meaning that none of these 4 schools are really good fits for me score wise.

Hope this helps.
