Why do I suck at the ACT?

Why do I suck at standardized testing? I cannot, for the life of me, score high on any of the PACTs I’ve taken so far. I’m currently taking a prep class, but my scores are dropping (I started at a 29, now I’m hitting 27). I always clump three scores together and one score drops signficiantly lower than the others. For example, on my last PACT I scored a 27: 31 English, 28 math, 27 science, and 23 reading. I’m not an idiot, my GPA is a 3.93/4.3, I have multiple volunteer hours, and I’m the leader of several activities. I’ve been building my resume for an Ivy school, but I can’t get a good score on the ACT and SAT.

I have no idea what to do. I’m watching my dreams slip away. Help, please. I’m freaking out.

How did you do on the PSAT? What’s your experience with other standardized tests? I can’t explain why your practice test scores are dropping, but talk to your test prep class tutor and ask him/her what the issue might be. Also, be sure to take both the ACT and SAT, as some kids do significantly better on one than the other.

Your scores are probably dropping because whoever is tutoring you is giving you the wrong advice/techniques regarding the test.

You might want to consider getting different view points on how to take the ACT. This website has a lot of really good advice on how to handle each of the sections.
