Why do need-blind schools ask if I need financial aid?

I’m aware that there are 5 schools that are need-blind and meet full financial aid to international students - MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Amherst. I’m not applying to Amherst so not sure how they work, but for Harvard, Yale and Princeton, they ask on the Common App whether I will need a need-based aid. If they are truly need-blind, why do they ask this? MIT didn’t ask for it, and they stated that their admissions department is not close with the financial aid department. Are those 3 ivy schools really need blind?

A need blind school admission department won’t kniw how MUCH financial need you have…or aid you will require to attend.

So…indicating you will apply for financial aid won’t affect your application at these need blind schools.

Maybe that’s just a common app question for all schools that need blind schools do not see on their end.

It allows their FA department to get started reminding you of due dates, and to track who hasn’t turned in any FA info.

Many need blind schools do not see the answer on their end.

Thanks everyone, that really cleared up my question!
