Why do people say Math 2 is "easy"?

ah I just found out I got an 800 on the math sat ii and was really surprised b/c I didn't think I did well, so perhaps the curve is huge? I think the normal SAT math is much easier, but I never do as well on it :'(

@imgoing2college

I think you have 2 choices.

1)improve your MATHII score and apply for Ivy's

2)use your reasoning score and apply for umichigan or i dont know uminnesota, i mean colleges that dont require subject tests.

Yale (and most likely the other Ivies and top LACs/universities) look much more highly on doing extremely, extremely well on the Math I compared to the Math II. An 800 on the Math I test really shows whether a students is talented (gifted, even) in math. Hence the reason why 800s on Math II are much more common than the same score on Math I.

If you get an 800 on Math II, that's very good. If you get an 800 on Math I, Ivy League schools know you are excellent at math. If you get an 800 on both... you get the point.

i don know abt easy or not but for me it was
reasoning:760
math level 2:800 (without a graphing calculator!!!!)
but i was actually sure of 800 on reasoning but got two wrong there... its better to say that on reasoning anyone can score but on level 2 only actual serious maths students can score and therefore they find it easy .... but believe me level 2 was MUCH harder and those who say its easy r insulting my 800 there and i don like them!!!!!

The math 2 curve is also way nicer than the curve for the math on SAT reasoning....

800 satm 790 m2
:(

The SAT Reasoning Math and the Math I test accuracy and attention to detail, really.

The Math II Subject Test allows more room for error.

Since we're comparing sizes:
SAT Math: 700
Math I: 770
Math II: 650

Yeah, my knowledge of trig is lacking.

I never liked trig...

On my PSAT, I got an 80 in Math, a bit better than my practice tests and the result of a good amount of prep and extremely careful work (caught several mistakes by checking thoroughly).

On Math II, I got an 800 even with some sloppy errors and poor preparation. The questions required more knowledge but less thinking, and the curve is a godsend.

In terms of raw score, however, I think Reasoning math is easier than SAT II math.

IMO, SAT II Math is a lot easier than SAT I Math.
I'm sure a lot of people said this already, but the curve for Math II is ridiculously generous.
Math I just tries to trick you and make you mess up.
Though I got 800 on both.. so.. :)

I did MUCH better on the SAT reasoning math than the math 2 subject test. My problem wasn't the material it was the time. I could of answered all of those problems I just work slowly.

@ johnconnor,

That just means the test is easier to score well on. If I made both curves equal, then which do you think would be harder?

I thought both math1 and math2 were significantly harder. On my last two SAT Reasoning Tests, I only missed one question (780 and 790 respectively). On my last two Math Level 2's, I got 740 and 780 (a lot wrong), and on math level 1, I got 730 and 750 (a lot wrong/blank).

So yeah, subject test math is harder. It has to be because they're supposed to challenge a more able population than the one taking SAT I.

First, for this thread to have any purpose, the word "easy" or "hard" needs to be defined. Is it defined as the difficulty to obtain X SCALED score or X RAW score? I think most people would agree that scaled score is a better definition.

That being said, Math II is easier for competent math students (I could take the math II exam over and over again and consistently score 800's, guaranteed) while SAT math is easier for less competent math students (1 or 2 random mistakes can bring you down to a 780/790 or a ~750).

Oh, and another thing, you might hear the phrase "math II is easy" because it is also often compared to other subject tests, not just reasoning math. Most people would agree that getting an 800 on math II is generally easier than an 800 on biology, literature, and just about every other subject test (math II has the lowest percentile for kids who score 800 -- 90%).

Well math 2 is "easy" to score well on. But with a curve similar to the SAT Math's, even a 720 would be 99th percentile.

what about the foreign language tests?

Yeah, forgot about those. I just made that statement off memory, and looking at the sheet, the math II test does have the lowest 800 percentile except for about half of the language tests.

I would guess, though, that Math II is often a self selected test. A lot of losers think "I can't do math" and are afraid to take it. The history tests are pretty easy, but I think the scores are lower because the people taking them are often less intelligent/prepared.

Isn't 790 Chinese like 5th percentile?

I think it has to do with the fact that basically every student in the country takes USH at one point or another, and consequently takes the SAT 2.

I thought the material for the SAT II was pretty easy, but I'm pretty careless so I need time to go back and check my work and 60 minutes was not enough for me..

On the SAT I, I didn't feel as rushed and I got to check over everything like twice before time was up.

So for me, it was mostly a timing thing.
