Why do people sleep on beds?

I'm such a conformist, because I never question sleeping on a bed .... Yeah.

people sleep on bed because bed were made for people to sleep in it....(floors weren't made for that purpose...so by sleeping on floor u'r going against the laws of nature..u all will be punished in hell for that)..........
"why do people sleep in bed?" does this mean that those who don't sleep in bed aren't people.......(_) .....or...... whatever

but who is to say that sleeping on beds is natural? I'm sure neanderthals would respectully disagree with you. After all, they slept on rocks, I presume.

The normality of the use of beds depends on many factors including, but not limited to, upbringing, personality, traditions, and the people's willingness to even sleep in them.

It's comfortable!

"I'm sure neanderthals would respectully disagree with you."

Something about this sentence is just really funny. Seriously. It's awesomely contradictory. And it... sounds... silly... umm.

The planks that support my mattress just snapped. So now I have to sleep on the floor. Haha

it was meant to be humerous...I think. And I guess the words "respetfully" and "neanderthals" in the same sentence does sound weird.

Heh...

Ugh, I can't find anything related to this on scholar.google.com...

Some quotes (though not scientific, but still interesting):

the chinese (amongst many other Asian nations) often sleep on wooden surfaces covered with something thinner, yes thinner, than a duvet. I have lived in Taiwan for about 3 years, and travel a lot in that area, and they have less back hassles than us out in the west, generally speaking.

Sure, a lot now buy normal mattresses, but if you got to more traditional families, esp out in the countryside, where they have to work in the rice paddies every day (back breaking work, believe me!), and they use what works.

:)

I prefer a futon myself. A real one, not some supermarket special.

I'm sleeping in a futon right now. Have been for this school year. I've had no problems with my back. I guess the ONLY problem is that I often roll on my arm and when I wake up, it hurts...

But that's only cause I have books all around me so I'm sleeping in a tight area.

why not add some walls to it? Or just surround yourself with something solid so you wouldn't roll off?

damn, i wish i could post on cc while sleeping.

sorry, couldn't resist.

What I want to know is how Cvjn got a computer inside that futon. It would be cramped in a futon even without the computer. Right?

sleep on the ground and you will know why

Having lived in Kyushu, I can say that there is a very good reason to sleep in a bed.

Mukade (centipedes.)

Those suckers LOVE futon. I'll gladly trade back pain for mukade free sleep. The first time I woke up with one crawling on me in my futon, I decided to stick with a Western-style bed.

Woah, very good point! For some reason, I haven't had many problems with insects in the Seattle area.

InquilineKea,

You don't get these in Seattle. I guarantee it.

To the OP (four pages late): Uh...because they're tired?

^^the question wasn't: why do people sleep? It was: why do they sleep on beds?
The inquiry was about the place, not the action,

Calling Captian Obvious! ^

and that's a bad thing?
