We all know school is important but isn't there more to life? I know this won't be targeted to a l lot of you but others, is just doing school a productive lifestyle? The thing is, the kids doing this in high school will be doing the same when they enter college. Just studying, studying, studying. But will this help you 100% in the real world? Or are you doing this so you don't have to face the troubles of the world and be setup with a job straight out of college? I was talking to a person in my class and all he talks about is class rank and grades. He studies al the time and i ask him what college he is think about. He says he doesnt really know but then says Santa Barbara because of his cousin. I laugh out loud. The point is does it really matter of you go to a school of pprestige or not? Isn't moderation the key to life? There is a difference between a hobby and obsession with school.

"Education is the most important tool which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela

Well said. It is because we love education, well I know I do.

^ thanks. this is one of my favorite quotes. i, too, LOVE to learn :)

I understand that but there are always people who seem paranoid about stats. Always posting with their gaudy numbers asking if they'll get in. Don't you want to just take it easy and have some fun? Education is important but there is a balance.

Well yeah we have fun. Who doesn't. We don't go home and study 24/7.

smartafgkid since you're new i wouldn't say "we" yet... there ARE obsessions (taking 20 AP classes and such.. only doing ECs b/c of college and doing LOTS of them)

But yeah this thread = sticky

It just seems that kids who actually need help and direction (me) can't get it because they are overlooked by so many posts. Most of these topics the kids are doing fine, they'll get into a college. If I were you I'd kick back, for me, I'm just as happy going to a good state school. Yale, Harvard, Princeton, they're all yuppies, you'll be just as successful elsewhere.

Parents are the main reason. Curse Asians and our emphasis on education.

Wow, my parents arent involved at ALL in my learning LOL! I learn on my own...I don't think I've relied on my HS since the end of freshman year...that's the way it should be: learning at your own pace.

The 20 APs = no life mantra is pure crap, provided you know how to study 3 hrs worth of material in 30 mins...

I wouldn't really consider High School an education unless you truly explore things and experiment. If you're too focused on college admissions you miss out on a lot of things so people need to chill out and take it easy sometimes instead of stressing for unnecessary reasons. Most of the smartest people I know have balance in their life, and spending all your time studying or doing things solely for college admissions is not balance. I usually disregard the heavy-studying nerds as not even smart because anyone truly intelligent knows that studying worthless crap in high school is just f-ing stupid.

You don't learn anything important in school or college, its just the name and the connections you make. An absolute idiot could out compete some incredibly genius with the right charisma. I know some employers would rather hire a community college graduate over some Harvard PhD because the Harvard PhD is an arrogant ***.

Anything important you actually learn does not come from school - you can't learn any life lessons by joining some class.

Reppintha415dime, you be frontin'

I think its innate. As an Honors student, I just can't do bad deliberatly in school.
