why do some colleges seem to prefer certain highschools?

The naviance at my school is pretty accurate because we are required to use it for graduation. Here are the acceptance rates at the ivies for my school...

Princeton 0%
Harvard 3%
Yale 7%
Columbia 9%
UPenn 18%
Dartmouth 19%
Brown 25%
Cornell 35%

I know cornell is easier to get into than princeton.. but really? is this normal?

Maybe the people applying to Cornell and Brown are better fits for those schools? I think it’s more common for unqualified applicants to apply to Harvard/Yale/Princeton because they’re slightly more famous than the other Ivies, if that makes sense.

wouldnt that be true for their overall acceptance rates?

that is a good idea maybe peope from my school are less informed about what it takes for higher unis

chlo: your sample is too small to derive anything meaningful. Given the size of the applicant pools to HYP, the fact that zero or 7% are admitted is near meaningless. The often cited description of “crapshoot” is very apt.
