Why do transfer students need to submit their high school transcript

After we have been admitted to a UC, they request our college and high school transcript. Why high school?

They only do if you’re not IGETC certified.

You sure? I’m IGETC certified and they want my high school transcript.

Foreign language requirement?

Maybe to make sure you graduated, but foreign language sounds about right.

Ucsb has both listed for me because they haven’t verified I’m IGETC certified yet. They can’t without my cc transcripts! They said it will disappear after they receive verification.

There’s some additional requirements (such as the US History one) that can be met by high school courses. I was asked for mine last year even though I was IGETC certified and was not using any coursework from high school to satisfy any courses (not even foreign language which you would have needed to show your CCC to be certified anyways). I had already taken plenty of equivalent courses at CCCs.

It could be as simply as verifying you graduated high school. None of my CCCs ever checked to see if I had, but I was still certified without issue. However, seems not all UCs always require it.

Just provide it and don’t sweat it so much. It’s no harm, no foul.

I went to three different high schools. Do you think they will want all three transcripts or just the one I graduated from??

Thank you! This whole process is just a little stressful right now.

hey smiley may i ask what schools have requested that you send in your hs transcripts?

maybe this is stupid but will the hs transcript affect anything for me?
I didn’t do very well in high school, especially the last two years when
I stopped caring.

When I transferred to Davis, they asked for my high school transcripts. Since it had been at the time, seven years since I graduated high school, I had to go to the district office, and have them pull my HS transcript out of storage!

UCSD

Well for me I’m sending it because there’s a class at WVC I took while in HS for HS credit that I didn’t put on my UC App (because it was for HS) and I have an online class from BYU (ugh, BYU, wish I’d known their reputation before I did that) under the same thing. The HS transcript would be sent with a note explaining why those two classes don’t appear on the app, all for the sake of transparency. But yeah, I’ve heard it’s usually for foreign language.

@Itachirumon
You took those classes for high school, but will those classes be included in your college GPA since those are college classes? A little confused.

For IGETC certification (unless you take language at CC) and in my case to get IB credit.

Hi, Itachirumon:
So you clarified to the university why you did not put that in your UC App. What did the university say about it? Did you get a better grade for the same class in BYU? How did the school calculate the GPA for admission? You are attending in that school right now, right?
I am asking because I did the same thing, I am worry that the university will deny my admission to the school.
Thank you very much for answering my questions, Itachirumon. :D
