Why do you think I got rejected?

I guess it’s important to know that Yale is looking to sculpt a class, and not merely choose the best students from everywhere. Thus, there is definitely a quota on students from Singapore, I’m guessing 5-6?

No one knows, dear.

That’s the truth.

People can examine students’ records ad infinitum to pinpoint the weakness or strength that tipped you into the ‘Accepted’ or other categories, but the truth is, no one who isn’t on the Admissions Committee knows why any individual student was admitted or not.

The heavy use of “Results” threads here are simply ways to game the system, the “Chances” threads are a little neurotic, I think. I mean, if you want to go to Yale, you apply to Yale, whatever your chances. If you are lukewarm on a school, and you think you haven’t a prayer, I guess you don’t apply. But you really wanted to go to Yale, and you don’t know why that didn’t work out.

What happened, hm, let’s speculate. You weren’t a cheerleader who does sand paintings and Yale really wanted one of those? You weren’t a musician who takes care of a disabled brother and speaks several languages? You aren’t half-Israeli and half-Palestinian with perfect SATs? You just don’t know what a college is looking for. If there were 400 unique applicants from Singapore that Yale needed to make a perfect freshman class, Yale would have admitted them all. Yale just admitted a set of quadruplets – and they were all unique and individually wonderful – but they were admitted each on his or her own merits.

Best to not dwell on this too much. You will do really well no matter where you go.

Good luck to you.
