Why do YOU wanna go to college?

There's probably a thread like this already, but I'm just curious.

I see so many peeps at my school wanting to go to UCLA, Berkeley, the Ivies, UChicago... but why?

I mean, is it just for the prestige? For the job prospect? Or maybe you wanna go to Ohio State because they have some awesome parties over there?

Why do YOU wanna go to college?

I personally just wanna go to college for the experience. I wanted to go to a small school, where I would have the professor's attention, and located in a place with all four seasons.

I also didn't want to pay for college, because that's BS (besides I can't afford it). My current career goal doesn't even need a college education; just a lot of "self studying."

College experience and job prospects.

To have the experience of a lifetime and be exposed to the world’s best, and to the world in general.

But yes, it would definitely help with getting a job, or preparing for the next step of education, should I choose to pursue it.

learning, the possibilities, the potential

it’s exciting :)

I’ve heard college is the best experience of one’s life. Plus if i wanna go to med school, i kinda need to lol.

Parties, hot guys, etc.

Nah just kidding, I’m probably going to GTech, there’s no hot guys there… ;D

Anyways, I have to in order to become an architect.

It’s easier to study abroad for a lengthened period of time (semester or year), because the university can either be affiliated with the study abroad program, or at least credits tend to transfer easier. My high school, on the other hand, does NOT take foreign credits well. Also, studying abroad in college means you can… experience more legally? ;)

And I’d like to further my interests into a future career.

To honor my ancestors, who through their tribulations got my family to where we are.

Job prospects and prestige.

I wanna be a teacher, so I sort of have to go to college to get my teaching certification/degree. And for the experience.

Alright, but now tell me why you guys wanna go to your top school?

I want to go to Cal Poly SLO, which I was accepted to early decision because it has an excellent hands on program in materials engineering, it is in California not too far from where I live, it has godd weather, and it is in a great location for recreational activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking.

the experience

I wish I could spend my whole life choosing different areas of academia and learning about them, but at least I have 4 years ahead, aha.

To add on to what I said above, I want to go to Penn (my #1) for several reasons. First, its practicality. Penn is often viewed as pre-professional, but that’s good for me. I like it when things are realistic, not abstract. It has a top notch economics program that I know won’t be filled of random abstract b.s that won’t be worthwhile to my future career. Second, my dad went to Penn. My dad’s closet is filled with Penn stuff, and it has subconsciously been a part of my life because I see the name everyday. I also think it would be awesome to go to school where my dad went. Next, I love the campus. I think the quad (http://aisupenn.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/2549567.jpg</a>) looks astounding. I also love how Penn is in the city, yet it has its own campus. Moving on, from what I’ve gathered Penn students live by the motto work hard, party hard, which I think fits me so well. Finally… there is a bit of prestige in going to an ivy.

And that’s why I wanna go to my top school.

Lawl, I’m not going to a top school because I don’t have $$ for undergrad + grad + a brother who wants to go through med school

The question was not about a top school, it was about your top school.

Going to UM-Ann Arbor because it’s awesome, and I get in-state tuition. The fact I already live there helps a bit too, since I can go home for laundry, good food, money, etc. the fact that A2 is an extremely international town for a town of its size is also a plus. And, I already know most of campus since I practically grew up on it. And come on, let’s be real, who doesn’t want to be a Michigan Wolverine!

^ Buckeyes fans.

^ Honestly that’s why I’m not applying to Michigan (well, and OOS tuition).
