I know this is a tough question, but I'm sure that there are lots of great answers out there. I am just curious to know why Yale is such an attractive university.

leave out the fact that Yale is an Ivy League, please. I don't think we need to state the obvious.

An incredible array of academic options, tons of resources per student, great social options (residential colleges), extremely intellegent students, decent professor interaction, amazing architecture, Grand Strategy, Masters' Teas, great dorms, incredible campus history, happy students, YPU, YDN, sweet dining halls, world's second largest gymnasium, laid back students who seem genuinely modest and helpful, traditions, and much more. Yale can offer an experience that combines the best of college fun, education, and the character-building that leads to future success. I admit that many colleges offer a wide array of benefits, but I would say that Yale holds these elements in balance very effectively.

In a short answer, Yale grows your potential, refines your skills, and builds you to be a leader in whatever field you choose. Yale is interactive. Yale in engaging. Yale is challenging.

Hopefully I have things other than poor spelling ability to bring to campus... haha.

Yes, you could say that many other schools offer what Mama4 described. Luckily our country has educational options for almost any type of student, and you'll find great things about almost any college. However, I think Yale and other schools like it create a special experience. They focus specifically on training people to become leaders and pioneers in their field. An alum put it to me this way: at Yale, you don't have to prove that you're a great student or that you have intellectual curiousity. You have to have these things to be there in the first place, so professors, the administration, and fellow students expect great things from you. That expectation leads to growth and personal developement that you will have to fight for at a place where it's easy to get swept under the rug.

HPA - yes, Harvard also has a residential college system but it differs in several ways from Yale's. First of all, incoming freshmen are assigned to a college at Yale and so from the very beginning there is an affiliation with one of the colleges. At Harvard, students put together "blocks" of people at the end of freshman year, which then get assigned to a House. At Yale, there are several people assigned to the college, including a master and a dean. Yale also has an extremely vibrant intramural system. Go to Athletics and click on intramurals and you will see the fall, winter and spring schedules of sports. All of these things contribute to the ease with which students get acclimated to school.

Yeah I’m really not too attached to Yale (and I don’t to be–highlyyyy doubt I’ll get in). But I’ve gotten the impression that among HYP, Yale has the most awesome and least pretentious students, and HYP has the best financial aid, so I’m just gonna try and see what happens.
