Not necessarily on this board, but almost all the people I've met at Cal seem to harbor some resentment towards Stanford. Why is this?

Just good, old-fashioned school rivalries?

Well, I'm hoping you're not trolling here, so here's my honest answer:

Cal and Stanford are college rivals. Simple as that.

Now, resentment is pushing it. I don't know anyone who "resents" Stanford. It never really goes beyond a hiss.

it just makes college life more fun to have a rival.
i was hiking the other day and saw someone wearing a stanford shirt walking past me. of course i was wearing my cal shirt. we looked at each other and chuckled.

Exactly, just good, old-fashioned school rivalry.

Resentment is a bit far. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Berkeley student who truly does find Stanford students to be "below" Berkeley's. It wouldn't be as difficult to find a student at Stanford who thinks the same about Berkeley.

Because Stanfurd Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxsssssssssssssssssss!!
;)

Cal Weenies!

who's got the AXE? you prissy tree, get back to the farm!

Harbaugh baby! Harbaugh will restore the Axe to its rightful home and we'll use it to slice Cal weenies for tailgaters on The Farm!

lol....OK!

hey does anyone know if the rumors are true about longshore? rumor has it he's decided to leave berkeley and go on his mormon mission or something. ***?!?
anyone know anything?

but didn't Tedford also recruit one of the top quarterbacks from a high school in Texas for next year?

Jealousy...?

I have not heard of any serious plans of Longshore leaving for his mission during college. While it is true that at some point in his life he will go, it does not have to be this year or next. He has been practicing with the first team at Spring Camp, which suggests he is likely the starter for next season; however, a lot can change between then and now, and it has nothing to do with the mission. At the start of summer camp, Tedford will have four elite 11 QBs on roster pushing for the starting job, including a recent commit from Dallas Episcopal, Brock Mansion. Mansion, though, is still very raw and most likely will blueshirt. For the record, last year no true freshman played on the field for Cal so Mansion's case will be the standard, not the exception.

That said, the QB position is the least of our worries with Kyle Reed starting to come into his own. Because of the possibility that Longshore might jump to the NFL after next season, expect some backups to get some quality reps. Suppose Longshore does have a change of heart and leaves for his mission, it is not the end of the world. Think of it this way, by the time he comes back, he will be a mature 24 y/o man playing among boys, with two years of eligibilty left. Cal actually experienced this first hand two winters ago when we played against BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. But this is all hypothetical: expect Longshore to be the #1 signal-caller against the Volunteers.

desean jackson is transfering to USC.......:(

You sure about that?

DeSean is going nowhere... the farm will be axe-less for 6 straight years

I'd cry if DeSean transfered to USC. They don't even need him. As far as the Berkeley vs Stanford thing, its all in good fun and I don't know a single person that resents or hates stanford students. If anything we feel sorry for them for having to live in Palo Alto and go to a school that looks like the worlds biggest Taco bell;)

Honestly?

Football rivalry amplified by an inferiority complex.

For most undergrads, at least.

inferiority? i think not!

^Inferiority?

I think so!
