Why does BU have such a low acceptance GPA?

I was looking on collegeboard today and saw that 19% of incoming freshmen at Boston U had a GPA of between 3.25 and 3.49, 17% had a GPA of between 3.0 and 3.24, and 3% had a GPA of between 2.5 and 2.99. This is sort of surprising considering BU is a pretty good school. I know that they weigh the rigor of the classes more than your actual grades in the classes, which might explain it a little, but can anyone else think of reasons why the overall incoming freshman GPA is so low?

If you add up the percents, you get 39%, and of the 19% within the 3.25-3.49 GPA, I would judge based off of the results threads that most of those 19% are closer to the 3.49 GPA. So really, these lower GPA’s only account for ~30% of the student population, which is why the GPA is not truly low for the current freshman class. Look closer at the numbers, and remember that there is more to an application than just the GPA…
