Why does Caltech reject so many geniuses?

Comparing the two threads from MIT & Caltech accepted class, I saw that so many students with Olympiad medals, while get accepted by MIT, get straight rejection from Caltech :-S Did anybody at CalTech really see a kids with a IPhO/ IChO/ IOI/ IMO medals ? Or all of them just got into MIT & Harvard?

CalTech isn’t just looking for paper smart. You really have to be a nerd. That means being interested in doing things with college level scientific knowledge and innovating. Also, the essays count A LOT more for CalTech.

i don’t have real data, but I know my son met medal-lers at Caltech. HaMinh, were there really many students denied at Caltech but accepted into MIT? You’ve got me curious.

Caltech admits for a class of 200, whereas MIT admits a class of 1000. I would expect that some people admitted at Caltech would be rejected by MIT even if they were admitting with the same criteria.
