Why do I have to report class rank and Gpa and ACT scores on the commonapp when it will be on my transcript and my ACT scores will be sent by me? Just wondering
Some colleges themselves require you to input this information. My D had to input ALL of her high school grades, even though the school sends her transcript. Very annoying.
This can make sense for the colleges to avoid bottlenecking on the data entry of standardizing records from transcripts. However, then the transcripts are only needed from matriculants after high school graduation; transcripts should not be needed from applicants if the applicants put their courses and grades into the application.
@ucbalumnus , a school to which my D applied required the student to input this data AND to have the official transcript sent as well - as part of the app, not just upon matriculation.
Common app needs uniformity that will be applicable to all collegese that use it and thus it needs to include everything that might apply to only some colleges, e.g.: (a) as mentioned above some colleges want the information on the app and still require official transcripts and scores; (b) some colleges do not require official test scores until after you are admitted (Stanford is an example), and © some colleges want self-reporting of grades and do not require offical transcripts until after you are admitted.
That does not make sense. If the applicant enters all of the courses and grades into the application, then sending the transcript on application is just more useless work for the applicant, high school, and college. Better to just require the final transcript after high school graduation for matriculants to verify the self-reported courses and grades.
You are preaching to the choir.
