Why does everyone on CC think they are so STUPID when they are near genuises? GRRRR.

I know a lot of these people have no idea how to live life to the fullest and I feel sorry for them.

Uh, how can you live life to the fullest if you aren't going to Harvard? I just don't understand.

this site has become an extreme guilty pleasure for me and ive learned so much about college from it.. i wish i knew back when i was looking for schools because i had no idea how many there could be for me out there.

but it also makes me irritated beyond belief everytime i read a chances thread.. thats why ive stopped.

yeah, a lot of people "bash" my school on this thread and will say oh its alright, just really overrated. and that might be true to them but i am VERY proud of it and the people in the real world know that im getting a good education

CC is great.. just take everything said with a grain of salt and realize that everything is skewed beyond belief. theeze peeps iz cuhrazy yo

Easy I apologize if I misread your comment. You cannot call someone average if they have a 3.0. Grades are important but you cant measure the worth of a person just because of their GPA. I agree that you measure yourself by those around you but GPA means absolutely nothing to anybody other than schools and their is so much more to life. Just because you have average grades doesnt mean your toiling with averageness.

Right, I was going to use the word "mediocre" but that sounded too strong and too negative. I didn't mean "average" like the literal arithmetic mean, I just meant average like unremarkable.

My point is that a lot of people here look to seek comfort in their ineptitude and try to validate themselves by excoriating the people better than them at particular things, and this place becomes a pity party.

As a side-note, I think 3.0 is pretty average because of grade inflation and the like. But of course most people can't run sub 5.0's or bench 185, even though those that can are still unremarkable.

There's a difference between getting a 3.0 and congratulating oneself for the earnest effort and getting a 3.0 and scorning others who got a 4.0. My issue is with the latter.

"Stop trying to appease your own sensibilities and egos. Success is relative, and drawing upon the greatness of others breeds motivation for success. I measure myself with the people I'll be competing with, and so do many others. You can feel satisfied and good about yourself with your 3.0 GPA, your 1800 SAT, your five second 40-yard dash, your 185 pound bench press, and your "expertise" at playing chopsticks on the piano, but don't be scornful of others who dominate your ass at everything just because you're fine with toiling in averageness."

Obviously, you've missed the point of the thread. Unless I've missed the point of your statement.

You exaggerate like crazy.

"Grades are important but you cant measure the worth of a person just because of their GPA."

Of course you can. Heres a math equation to allot your mind to sense.
GPA=Worth of a person
Low GPA=bad person
Good GPA= Good person

Everydayss gooo too skoos, to be the goood boi!

Easy I apologize I misread your statement

This is a stupid thread. No-one ever acts like that.

^ do I detect sarcasm?

There was a really good thread about this a long time ago.
Oh look, it's still around. I wrote a rather lengthy response as well, post #11:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/424839-all-these-chance-threads.html

TBH, this is a perfectly sane view. No one gets into the Top 20s if they only have a 2.9 GPA with a 1500 SAT score.

You've missed the point.

I did miss the point. You satisfied with my answer now?

This thread is a fairly accurate representation of some people on this forum... people freak out way too much. If you have anywhere close to the stats the OP posted, you're doing find. Don't let the naysayers put you down.

Neurotic is more like it.

^MUCH more like it

so what IS the point of this thread?

Initially, kids just wanted to sooth each others insecurities and bash others who are smarter than them, but the tide had turned.

I kinda get bothered by some of the people here. My highest ACT score was a 27 and I tried hard to get it. Someone asked how easy it would be to get a 27 and everyone pretty much said that it's not hard to get at all and it can easily be accomplished. It just bothers me how the average people are looked at as if they are retards.

I've learned that if I stick to College Life, the Cafe, and a few other sections, I can avoid the stupid feeling.

nobody ever said you were a retard. in fact, maybe no one knows that your best effort was a 27 - from their POV, a 35/36 IS attainable by anyone who works hard enough, perhaps that notion has been their ethos throughout high school. I think the worst crime they have committed in your chance thread was tactlessness. nobody said you were a retard - if you think they did, it's all in your head.
