Ive never been there and I saw something about Shuttle busses, but I couldnt find anything about them. Anyone know?

I just toured JMU on Friday! =D

They have shuttle busses to transport visitors around the campus. They also have busses to transport students and anyone else around the campus and around the town of Harrisonburg. They have busses that go to the different halls, and stores and other places; it’s pretty cool.

Yes, we have public buses that travel throughout campus, (and to off-campus housing) periodically. I believe it is like every 5-10 minutes.

There typically has not been an issue with the availability of buses during normal hours.

Are most places on campuses an easy walk or are shuttle buses a necessity?

The campus is really in three sections… the Bluestone section on the Quad, the center area of campus by the bookstore, and the football stadium, and the ISAT side of campus. I think it would be about a 25 minute walk from the Bluestone area to the dorms on the ISAT side of campus… So, the shuttle buses are helpful. Many of the upperclassmen live off campus, there are bus that go to those areas as well, so they are useful in that regard as well.

Daughter was looking for a smaller LAC but none have worked out thus far. So…to the larger, state schools. Hoping she’ll fall in love on Monday, with the campus.

I hope thatshe will love it at JMu. I am completing my 3rd year teaching here. I went to Syracuse for undergrad (then about the same size as JMU is now), and Penn State for grad school (HUGE), but attended a small New England boarding school of HS, and taught at a smaller state university in another state before teaching here. I think that JMU feels like a much smaller school than it actually is. Maybe not in campus size… although It does feel less spread out that Syracuse did… but, because of the undergraduate focus, and the relatively small class size… not a lot of 100 person lecture classes here. I also think that the campus has the friendly feel of a smaller campus.

Too bad it is supposed to rain on Monday… it was beautiful yesterday and today. The campus is beautiful, especially in the spring. Good luck on your visit!

Thank you, Kat. She looked up college sites and read everything she could of JMU. Every site says the same thing…the people are so friendly. Crossing fingers we leave campus tomorrow with the proverbable senior rite of passage…a JMU hoodie in her possesion!

Momray,

If you want a hoodie, make sure you check out the outpost store off campus on port republic road (right when you get off 81) it has a much more of a selection than the campus bookstore and in my opinion and much cuter hoodies

Enjoy your visit!

Thanks, tilohnine…hubby saw that store on our drive in town.
