I walked into my college class 10 minutes late yesterday and ever since I walked in late, my professer is treating me diffrentley than before. I was only late to her class twice this week. When other students come to her class late, she doesn’t treat them diffrent. She only treats me diffrent when I walk in late. Ever since I walked in late, it seems like she dislikes me now when she didn’t before. Why is that?
I don’t think you can use the phrase “ever since” when referring to something that happened yesterday. I also don’t think you can use the word “only” when referring to being late twice this week. Just don’t be late, especially if this is a small class. Your professor probably feels like you disrespect her and you probably disrupted the class both times.
^Lol, this. Make up for it by coming to class early for a while.
She’s not treating you differently. You’re projecting.
And make it a point to get there on time next week.
For smaller classes, this tends to happen often, since attendance is more important, as is punctuality.
The same thing happened to my friend, who was late by 4 minutes, but he came in with a box of take-out food. To the professor, this signified that this student came late just to go get some food, and some might indeed see that as disrespectful.
In what ways does she act as though she dislikes you? I’ve never seen a professor automatically dislike a student because they happened to be late a couple of times.
“I was only late twice this week” sounds like the “normal” benchmark is like four times a week, lol.
You need to provide us more information. Did she say something to you that she doesn’t normally say to students as you entered the room? You’re probably over-thinking it. Just try not to be late anymore.
@bodangles - Ohhh, I thought he meant he was late for the first time ever this week (and then was late once again the same week.)
Habitual tardiness is a problem, OP. And I can see why your professor would be irritated.
@preamble1776 I can’t know for sure, of course, but that’s what it sounded like to me. Maybe OP will clarify?
Were you disruptive when you came in?
If you come late, it shows:
- You do not respect the professor by getting to class on time
- You cannot follow the rules of the class
- It is disruptive to the class and to the professor
- You miss some class material
So perhaps she is tired of it!
Honestly, what were you expecting from her? A batch of homemade cookies and a gold star? Showing up late without a good excuse not just once, but multiple times, does tend to annoy professors. It shows a lack of respect/interest for the course and lack of organization.
“Only twice this week”???
How often are you typically late?
Maybe she’s tired of being treated so disrespectfully, and has lost respect for you.
