I’m not sure what the point of Heidegger’s comments are… but in response to bluebayou, Mudd has at least one (generally two-three) engineering prof in all major areas so even though you can’t major in a specific field, there is easily enough research and upper division classes to prepare one for grad school. I personally have two friends who focused in biomed engineering, one went to Johns Hopkins and the other went to UCSD for grad school, so apparently Mudd prepares them well enough.

It seems to me that the OP is defending Harvey Mudd which is kind of funny. There is nothing to defend Mudd against. Everyone is saying it’s a top notch college. It’s just different than a large research university or other LAC’s.

Why does no one mention it? Because it’s on the West Coast, therefore largely unknown to many other parts of the country, because it’s a specialty school focused in engineering, and because it doesn’t have the things that typically make colleges “known” in this country – which is a winning sports team. Why sweat it, though? It shouldn’t matter in the least, as it’s an excellent school, and the fact that “no one mentions it” means nothing.

How long will it take for someone to mention that Mudd is not well known because its Peer Assessment is lower than [fill the blank.]

Perhaps we simply should give Mudd the CC prize for the “Best known school nobody ever heard about.”
