Why Does Rice Ask Me to List Other Colleges I'm Applying To?

And will this be used in any sort of discriminatory manner? Can I leave it blank? I really don't think its a great idea to tell Rice where else I'm applying to.

If you do a search you will find that many other people have asked this question before.

Rice is interested to know who their competition is. It’s not used in a discriminatory way. If anything, it shows that you are applying to other peer schools and that if Rice really wants you they might need to offer you merit aid to come. My son (a current senior at Rice) had listed the other schools he was applying to, which included UT as well as several Ivies, and he was offered significant merit scholarships from Rice. So I would suggest you fill it out. You don’t need to include every school, but fill in enough to show the range of schools.

What if you are applying ED? I assume they will know that those are the schools you plan to apply to if you don’t get accepted? Or should I just leave it blank?

I think you dont need anything if you apply ED.

I mean, you arent applying anywhere else if you are applying ED? With the hope of getting in of course
