I'm applying to Temple University as a transfer student. For my personal statement, I want to talk about my experience in starting college full time in my senior year of high school, a year prior to graduation. I learned so much from my experience: I matured academically, I developed beneficial time management skills, I learned to make my schoolwork my top priority, I learned to be more confident because in college you can be yourself. But I feel like I can't explain why I developed all of these qualities, because they all just clicked for me. So how can I write my essay?

Honestly, I just wouldn’t use that topic. Your personal essay should give some insight to who you are as a person and what makes you interesting and unique. It should not show who you are as a student; your scores speak for themselves.

I have to agree with zchryevns. . . . The admissions committee already knows all that by looking at your transcripts. Unless they’re specifically asking you to write about your academic history, think about something more personal that’s not already somewhere in your application.
